Early intervention for 50 children in Guatemala.
Our program in early stimulation continues growing; our coverage reaches to more communities.
Currently we are taking care of 27 boys and 36 girls under six years old. Once a week they receive visits in their homes where their parents receive orientation, in the last quarter from July to September this year, 684 visits have taken place, many of these visits happen in our facilities in order to receive therapies, such as physiotherapy among others.
All our children have an intervention plan that includes medical follow up which specialists from Guatemala City carry out most of the times.
We also work once a month with groups of parents where they share experiences, preoccupations and they also have fun, there is an organized group of parents with children with brain paralysis, Down syndrome and also other group that presents different disabilities, these group activities help a lot specially to the parents because they share experiences between themselves about how to support their children.
The story of Diego is an example of self-improvement, he is a naught and playful kid, and very curious. He was born with Down syndrome, when he was 4 months old his mother took him to ADISA for an evaluation, she was worried because he could not close his mouth properly and could not hold his neck. He begins the early stimulation program where he receives home visits, physical therapy and medical follow-up with a pediatrician that asked him for an echocardiogram. This year he travelled to the city for a medical check with the cardiologist who said that his heart works very well, his family is very happy for this.
This year he will turn 4 years old, he visits the pediatrician every month, he is in the health program and the early stimulation program, his family is helped with medicine when he gets sick, his teacher goes to his home to work with him, he receives therapy with a dog called Mo’os, he loves to feed him, pet him and hug him, Diego has become a lot better.
Thanks to your support we can improve the life quality of children with disability in ADISA.
