In Malawi, thousands of youth face unemployment, hopelessness, and limited access to opportunities that help them build a future. Dzuka Achinyamata (Youth Rising) is a dynamic leadership and empowerment program for 120 job seeking youth and 500 high school students in Lilongwe. Through leadership training, financial literacy, entrepreneurship and technology skills, mentorship, job shadowing, and counseling, we empower youth to rediscover their potential and achieve economic stability.
Malawian youth (15-24) face some of the region's highest unemployment and schooldropout rates. Over half report being unemployed and searching for work. Poverty, early marriage, and limited resources keep many from completing secondary school, only 37.4% finish lower secondary and just 21.5% complete upper secondary, meaning most never graduate. Without targeted support, young people risk being trapped in long-term unemployment, poverty, and social exclusion.
Dzuka Achinyamata introduces a vibrant, youth -centered leadership program custom built for job seeking or entreprenurial youth. Inspired by SSI's successful "Finding the Leader Within" model implemented in Botswana for 15 years, this program offers the skills to attain employment such as CV writing, interviewing, communications, self-esteem building, choosing a career, technology skills, financial literacy and developing a business plan. SSI links the youth to potential jobs with companies.
Dzuka Achinyamata will help reduce youth unemployment, improve econoimic stability, stimulate community-led economic activity, and support healthier, more empowered young leaders. We aim for: 80% of the youth to be connected to mentors, companies, and opportunities beyond the program. 40% of the youth to gain employment or start a business. 75% of youth to improve financial literacy skills and create budgets. 90% of the youth to improve self-esteem and communication skills.
