The work we do is to try and improve the livelihoods of women and girls, PWDs and the elderly in the communities we serve. We do this through skills training and awareness of pertinent issues that affect them and support of community projects. Our focus is mainly on rural communities that are more vulnerable and disproportionately disadvantaged economically, socially and politically. We have also been programming on social inclusion of all sectors of the community to ensure that no one is left behind. The current project on disaster response and managemnetnt included Community Based Disaster Preparedness and Management where wh focused on addressing disaster through the bottom up approach. The communities need to be aware of the risks of possible disasters in their environment in order to alleviate loss of lives and livelihoods.
The project in question was hoped to support the communities that have been affected by the EL NINO induced draught that has hit the Southern parts of Africa. Zimbabwe has declared the current state of affairs as a national disaster.
We received a donation of $100 and were able to support two families with a month's supply of food for this project. We still await further donor responses as the need is still rife.
