Summary

The Drops Initiative by Saidika Organization improves access to clean water, safe sanitation, and hygiene education in underserved Kenyan communities. In Kibera, Kisumu, and Busia, families rely on unsafe water sources, leading to disease and hardship. The project will install water purification systems and sanitation facilities, provide hygiene education, and empower communities to manage and sustain these solutions for long-term health, dignity, and resilience.

Challenge

In Kenya, many communities in Kibera, Kisumu, and Busia lack access to clean and safe water. Families rely on unsafe sources such as shallow wells, rivers, and unregulated vendors, leading to frequent waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea. Poor sanitation and limited hygiene facilities in homes and schools worsen the situation, affecting health, school attendance, and livelihoods. This cycle of unsafe water continues to trap vulnerable communities in poverty.

Solution

The Drops Initiative will address unsafe water and poor sanitation by installing community-based water purification systems in Kibera, Kisumu, and Busia, ensuring reliable access to clean drinking water. It will also construct sanitation and handwashing facilities in schools and communities to improve hygiene and reduce disease spread. Through hygiene education and community training, residents will learn safe water practices and manage the systems locally, ensuring long-term sustainability and

Long-Term Impact

It will enhance school attendance, especially for children, and free up time for women and girls to pursue education and livelihoods. By training local water committees, the project will ensure community ownership and sustainability of water and sanitation systems. Over time, this will strengthen
