Rameses, manager of our Career Development Project (CDP), reports: “Our Career Development Program have finished a comprehensive three-week career-readiness workshop entitled “Start-Up!”.
The goals were to teach hard and soft skills in order to increase the confidence, knowledge and capabilities of the trainees, so helping them to perform well and thrive in the workplace. 26 graduates from college and ALS (Alternative Learning System; out-of-school youth) senior high school level were participating. Most of them are planning to go full throttle in starting their careers after the workshop and aim to be more confident and prepared, while others increased their career knowledge in preparation for what’s next for them as they move up to their next level of education.
They focused on discovering more about oneself, considering that one of the foundations of a successful career plan is self-awareness. This involves understanding their own values, personalities and passion, as well as building up their confidence by looking at their skills and competencies.
Lyka, one of the participants shared, “Because of the sessions, I learned to recognize myself and acknowledge my own skills and strengths. I can say that I became more confident, not only in front of everybody, but with myself as well."
Other topics focused on more technical topics, such as: self-presentation, résumé-making, email etiquette, time and task management, personal finance and budgeting, and job interviews."
It is exciting to see the opportunities lying ahead after the workshop!
