The cleanup and recovery phase following Hurricane Harvey is still ongoing. Areas devastated by the storm are slowly coming back to life, but the process is slow and can be overwhelming for families who have lost everything.
The Texas Diaper Bank is actively supporting individuals affected by the hurricane. Between July – September 2018, TXDB distributed 406,000 baby and toddler diapers, 63,000 adult incontinence products, 10,500 baby wipes, and 14,500 other items including diaper rash cream, sunscreen, and toys.
Drawing upon the organization’s experience, TXDB created a Disaster Relief Manual for use by other diaper banks. In October, CEO Jorge Medina and Programs Officer Ashley Hernandez presented the manual, along with other related materials, at the annual National Diaper Bank Network Conference, held this year in Atlanta. TXDB is proud to share lessons learned from our on-the-ground efforts immediately following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. This information will help other relief agencies respond to needs quickly and efficiently.
The Texas Diaper Bank will continue to work with agencies in the affected areas to ensure that emergency diapers, wipes, and hygiene products continue to be available to those who need them. As long as families and individuals need us, we will be there for them!
