Disaster Relief-Hurricane Harvey

For 2018, the Texas Diaper Bank has presently distributed over 1.5 million diapers, 2.6 million wipes, and 24,000 other baby items to individuals in the Coastal Bend area.

Much of this time period has also been devoted to sharing the insights that the Texas Diaper Bank has gleaned from its experience with Hurricane Harvey. Our Programs Officer attended the Rio TX Annual Conference to tour and learn from various agencies also involved in Disaster Relief for the Coastal Bend. This event proved highly beneficial, as TXDB could realize how much these communities still need support. Our CEO went to Frisco, TX to speak on a panel of organizations involved in Hurricane Harvey relief and recovery for the Non-Profit Symposium. During the panel, they shared wisdom, advice, and struggles when dealing with a disaster.

The organization has been able to deliver more product for two reasons. First, the Texas Diaper Bank hired a new Warehouse Specialist. He has been crucial in organizing its current inventory. Second, the organization has officially procured a warehouse truck that can hold 24 pallets. The warehouse truck allows more trips to happen.

The Texas Diaper Bank has been chosen by the National Diaper Bank to be a part of the Alliance for Period Supplies’ Period Project. When Kotex U products are purchased at any CVS location, they will donate a product to a woman in need. Our role in this program will be to ensure that these donations get to women in our community. The organization will roll out a press conference for this with more details to come.
