As we promised, we opened the farm "The Daily Bread" on March, during our tour with donor friends.

Obviously, at that time little details still missing, but the great work had been done: rabbits, goats and chickens had their own space, even the fish are able to get two large tanks; then the garden was really came good.

From the sisters' house, you can see the new plaque on the entrance gate of the farm and admire the fantastic work that Bazar Luxembourg, Gruppo Aleimar and the OCPSP have done for the babies and children of Centre of Abomey in Benin,

Now, we know that Sister Alexandrine uses part of the animals to feed the children and the remaining for sale at the market; the same for the fish.  Good rains in the right period have done the miracle.

In this way, the food is guaranted to children but also the selfsaustaing of the centre. The revenues allow to Sister Alexandrin to maintain a certain

In this way, children have a varied diet and also it is ensured the self-reliance of the center. Revenues allow Sister Alexandrine to achieve financial independence in favor of all the children present today and those that will come in the future. Proud of this success, we can consider closed our experience at Abomey Center. From today we will think of another similar project, aware that the commitment of all will help many other children.

We thank all those who supported us in the realization of this project .

During our trip in March, we have seen how advanced the work. Getting closer to the goal: seeing completely over the farm. The animal cages are completed, the garden is really well under way, fish tanks are already full of tiny little fish that will become edible and marketable.

Although the work is not complete, we took advantage of our President’s trip in Benin, to inaugurate the farm, so we discovered the plaque, which dominates the entrance to the farm, giving the official start to the activities. Even the wells were completed, there are only small details to be finished but we will have to wait the end of the rainy season and on November will be all in perfect order.

Sister Alexandrine is so proud of “her” farm and did not stop to give thanks for all that has been done for the children of the Centre. This farm means having a certain food autonomy and not constantly depend on aid. Then, being able to sell part of the products will be another step towards full autonomy.

Dear Donors!

Great progresses have been made with the farm construction. Today, we are only missing the fence on top of the entrance gate and few tools for the animals. The garden is already a pleasure to look at as it flourishes every day and the entrance gate is ready to have the name 'LE PAIN QUOTIDIEN' on it.

We are very, very excited and we can only imagine what a beautiful place it will be, like a resort in the desert.  This coming March the president of Aleimar will be going to Abomey to visit the project and we will celebrate all together.

Unfortunately pictures can only partially represent the immense effort that we have been through- with all our supporters on the ground- to make this possible.

This farm will be a fresh start for the people of Abomey. It will set new standards to raise animals and grow food. It will change the way people approach farming, giving the new infrastructures and tools that will be available.

It will give to the children of the centres the chance to look ahead with hope that things will be better very soon as they will not feel hungry anymore.  It will give them the chance to learn, it will inspire them to do better in life, to strive and achieve and at last, it would give people in Abomey a chance to work hard looking after what will be their after the inauguration.

Let's all be proud of our hard work and stop for a moment to appreciate how important "these few walls" are going to be for the people of Abomey.

To all Donors, actual and potential, let's appreciate what your collective contributions have been able to achieve, and most importantly, the spirit of kindness and generosity behind every donation.

We sincerely look forward to your continuous support.

Dear Donors,

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that the construction of the Daily Bread Farm we have so longed for has been nearly accomplished, leaving only few details to finalise.

At the present stage, we have terminated the fence that divides the farm from the hospitality centre C.A.R.F. Francesco Massaro. The only missing parts are the entrance gate and the grid.

The buildings for the animals are almost completed as well. The hen-house is ready and it will operative by end of the week while the fence that divides the goats and the rabbits from the hens only requires a gate that would connect the two parts.  Two tanks to keep fish have been constructed as well.

Although it was not included in the initial budget, thanks to a very efficient use of the financial resources we have been able to address the crucial issue of water availability.

In order to ensure an essential and reliable source of water for the farm, we have built two wells of 80 metres depth each as well as a small well to allow sustainable collection of rainwater.

There is a third well which needs some major work before it could be safely used: an additional 20m dig to reach the desired 80metres depth and walls cladding.

Very soon we will be able to start raising hens, chickens and rabbits which will constitute an important source of food for the children of the hospitality centre C.A.R.F. Francesco Massaro as well as two existing structures that are totally hosting 130 children.

The farm has the crucial aim of creating a self-sustained structure to provide food for the centres, creating employment and income-generating activities while improving skills and capabilities at local level.

At the moment our project manager Antonella is in Benin to continuously monitoring and evaluating progresses.

The official inauguration of the project is due by the end of February when the president of Aleimar Mrs Elena De Ponti will be in Benin with other  supporters who have financed the project.

The construction of the farm “Daily Bread" proceeds despite delays due to frequent rains during the months of July and August, which however have been useful to have a good harvest of fruits and vegetables. Housings for farm animals have been completed while still missing the wall fence which separates the farm from the spaces dedicated to the activities of the babies living by the Centre. Sister Alexandrine, director of the Centre and local representative of this new project, expects to complete the new farm within the month of October and do its official opening in November, during the next mission trip of our collaborator Antonella Graziati.
