Cyclone Batsirai struck Madagascar on February 5th, 2022 leaving a trail of destruction just days after thousands of people were forced to flee their homes when Tropical Storm Ana also struck the country. This Cyclone Batsirai Relief Fund will support emergency aid like food, water, medicine, and shelter.
At least 20 people have been killed and thousands of people across Madagascar are homeless after Cyclone Batsirai hit communities with heavy rain and hundred-mile per hour winds. Thousands of homes and buildings have been completely destroyed.
All donations to this fund will support Cyclone Batsirai relief and recovery efforts. Initially, funds will assist in meeting communities' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. After initial needs are met, the fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run primarily by local, vetted organizations in the communities affected.

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.
We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.
They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
