This pilot project is now complete and we are looking forward to continuing to work on girls sports projects in Gaza in the future after getting such positive responses from the participants, their families, and the trainers. The project offered girls the chance to learn and practice different sports in a safe environment as well as educational workshops on mental and physical health, nutrition, early marriage and more.
The closing ceremony for the Cycling and Sports Project gave the 240 girls a chance to show off their new skills to their family and friends. There were bicycle stunts and football tricks under the umbrella of "Sports is a Right for Girls."
"Since a very young age, 6 or so, I had a deep passion of riding a bike, but I never knew how to ride and never did. The first time I rode the bike was in MECA project, the trainer held my hand and helped me through it, I loved that and learned it since then. I felt I was flying and no one can stop me, this is the most sport I have ever loved. In this project, I met a new friend named Amira. We shared the same bike, sometimes I ride and she held my hand me and sometimes vice versa. Also she is in my football team."
