Investing in rural youth - who often leave for opportunities in cities - by providing them with technology and entrepreneurial skills to grow local businesses and develop professional careers locally.
In rural Kuppam, few training programs target young people. Additionally, residents lack reliable access to electricity and up-to-date information. World Corps' (WC) transforms these barriers into opportunities by helping competent young leaders build businesses and develop expertise to create information, energy and market-driven products. In 2002, 15 individuals were selected from 127 applicants and trained to establish five Community Information Centers (CICs).
A 2-phase curriculum prepares participants to run a business and take a leading role in development of their communities. It introduces theories of community and econ. development and implements them.
Approximately 30 entrepreneurs will be trained in year 2. By year 3, 10 CICs will be established to train approximately 150 entrepreneurs per year.
