As we come to the end of January, CSR needs your support to continue our sponsorship program for 50 girls in New Delhi.  We need to raise an additional $6,300 to provide school tuition, supplies, and health support for the girls in the program.  Your donation has already set forty girls on the road to a brighter, more empowered future.

Please make a donation today to help Aisha go to school, eat healthy, and achieve her dream of becoming a doctor:

My name is Aisha and I study in class 6 b.  I want to be a doctor, and I want to help everyone.   The money I got today I will spend it on my school tuitions and school uniform.  I will eat what I feel like eating.  I will also eat what is usually recommended like bananas, eggs, bread, and vegetables.   Thank you.

Our girls come from families that are struggling to make ends meet, often with several children and a range of financial challenges.

Aisha’s father has studied up till the 9th standard and was paralyzed in an accident five years ago, making it difficult for him to find paying work. To support the family - including Aisha and her brother - her mother works as domestic help in a nearby colony.

So far, the family has spent Rs 5000 on Aisha’s dress, books, geometry box and shoes and is using the rest of the 12,000 rupees to support her education up to the next school year, which begins in March.  Without this support, more than a month of her mother’s salary would be consumed by school fees and supplies and the family would be forced to cut in other places such as health care and food.  Because of your support, the family will not have to make this compromise.

The families in our program have made a commitment that these girls eat well and receive the health care and support that they need to excel in school.  They are preparing their daughters for success and leadership later in life.

The $8,500 we raised last year supported 40 girls and their families in this way.

We thank you for your donation and ask that you continue your support this year.  Please visit our project page to hear Aisha share in her own words how your support is helping her succeed.

Please renew your support today.

Sheetal
Sheetal

“My name is Sheetal and I study in class 3. I want to be a police officer and help people.  I want to take care of my health, and I want to eat bread and eggs.  Thank you.”

On December 10, the girls from our scholarship program gathered with their families at the CSR office for a year-end celebration and to collect the final disbursement of their scholarship funds. There was more singing and dancing, and a lot of talk about how critical it is to invest in the future of girls.

Dr. Kumari talked with the girls about the importance of their education as well the importance of eating well and staying healthy.  The girls shared with us how they are using their scholarships and made a commitment –along with their families – to take care of their nutrition and health on a daily basis.

Sheetal (pictured and quoted above) is one of our youngest scholarship recipients.  She told us how she wants to be a cop and how she will eat bread and eggs (healthy foods) to make sure she stays strong.

Your donation is helping Sheetal get the start in life that she deserves.

Please visit our Global Giving page and Youtube channel for a collection of interviews with the girls from our program sharing what education and good health means for them.

…..

As I’ve shared, we want to continue this program next year for at least 50 girls.  To do that, we need to raise an additional $6,500 by the end of the year.

This program is funded entirely through the generosity of individual donors like you. The girls would be so grateful if you would renew your support for the coming year.

This holiday season, give the gift of education and change a girl’s life.

With gratitude,

Valerie Hohman

This Giving Tuesday, I’m asking you to renew your support for girls’ education in New Delhi.   Last year, Tuba – whose story I shared in our last report – received the support her family needed to help her catch up in school after falling behind during a move.  For just $200, her family way able to provide schools fees, extra tuition, and the supplies that Tuba needed to do well in school.  When the family's monthly income is under $100 per month, this support goes a long way.

Your generous donations helped us fund 40 girls with the support they need to excel in their studies and take their first steps toward a brighter future. We want to continue the program this year and need your support to make this happen and expand the work.   We will continue to support 40 girls and want to add at least an additional 10 to the program. We’re looking to raise $10,000 by the end of the year through our friends and supporters.

Today, Gates Foundation and GlobalGiving are matching 50% of the first $1,000,000 in donations raised on Giving Tuesday,  so please make your donation today so that it counts for more.  Please give at the level you are comfortable below.

$10 -- school supplies for one girl

$25 – school supplies and uniform for one girl

$50 – tuition, supplies, and nutrition for one girl for 3 months

$100 – tuition, supplies, and nutrition for one girl for 6 months

$200 – tuition, supplies, and nutrition for one girl for 1 year

It would mean so much if you would help reach this goal and share this message today with friends and family who would be willing to help.

With gratitude,

Valerie

It is the beginning of the festive season here in Delhi and the 40 girls in our scholarship program are midway through their school year. Your donation is supporting these girls with their tuition fees, school supplies, and support services.  Your support eases the financial strain on families and makes it possible for these girls to attend school.

Meet Tuba.

Tuba is studying in class 6th and is 10 years old.   She is spirited and friendly.  She led the dance party at our kick off event earlier this year.  (see the pictures below)

Tuba lives in Usmanpur with her parents and two brothers and three sisters.  Her mother is a housewife and her father supports the family working as a labourer, earning just Rs.1800 ($26) per month.   With eight people to support and living in a rented flat, the family is hard-pressed to provide for the basic needs of the family, much less the extra support that Tuba needs for her schooling.  Tuba also faced a gap in her education when the family transferred her from Sharstri Park to a government school in Gautampuri.  This process of transferring schools took almost one year which made her admission to class 6th a year late.  Now she is behind her peers and needs support to make up for this break in her schooling.

Thanks to your donation, Tuba is getting the tuition and support she needs to overcome this gap and make the most of her time at her new school.   With extra tuition she is able to catch up on her subjects and enjoy her time in class without pressure or worry from family.

Tuba and her family send their thanks for your support.

Follow the link below to join us for an orientation with our community members about how your generous donation supports their daughters' education.

I'd also like to share that we've brought additional donations that will allow us to add 10 girls to the program next year.

Again, we thank you so much for your support for Tuba and all of the girls in this program.

Warm regards,

Valerie Hohman

The school year is off and running here in Delhi and the girls in our sponsorship program are well prepared for the year because of your support.

Each of the 40 girls in the program received their initial pack of materials including a packback, school supplies and a uniform, that you saw distributed at the program initiation during our last report. Since then, each of the girls has had a bank account opended to receive funds that they are using for school supplies, tuition, and other supports for their education.

In each of our six community centres our staff has set up a system to ensure that the contribute of 12,000 Rs. per girl is going directly for support of her education, including student fees, tuition healthcare.

Over the next few months we will be sharing stories of the girls that your generous donations are supporting.

We are also happy to share that since our last update, we have also received another $860 in dontations that will allow us to sponsor another four additional girls through the program.

Again, we thank you for your generous donation and look forward to sharing more about the girls whose lives you are changing.

Warm regards,

Valerie
