Thank you so much for your continuous support for TYCL's creative arts for positive mental health.
The Deep Breath: Creative Youth Expressions of Healing! book is ready to be launched in the summer of 2022 with youth participants and all the stakeholders in Williamsport, PA. Copy of the book is available on request at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There has been a continuous request from parents for the creative arts for positive mental health workshops in the Williamsport area. We are in the process of developing a hybrid program curriculum and resource mobilization to launch a new program in the Williamsport region.
In addition, TYCL International is also collaborating with Circle of Dreams to co-create a mural for community resilience. Beginning of 2022, The Bronx community experienced the country's third-worst residential fire. This fire affected predominantly poor, working-class, African immigrant families living on Section 8 vouchers in Bronx, New York City. To reboot the community's strength and resilience, TYCL International and Circle of Dreams jointly co-creating a community mural to express and heal their feelings through mural art. The mural will be completed by end of summer 2022. We will keep you posted on further updates.
Thank you once again for your support and encouragement of our positive mental health initiatives.
Thank you so much for your continuous support to promote positive mental health of youth from marginalized families and communities.
We are in the process of publishing and launching a new coffee table book “Deep Breath: Creative Youth Expressions of Healing” from the youth creative arts camp in Williamsport, PA.
Deep Breath is a collection of creative expressions by and for youth to initiate mental wellness conversations among themselves, and with their families and community.
These artworks are the outcome of a five-day workshop on creative arts for positive mental health held in the month of June 2021 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, USA. The workshop invited youth to explore ways of using lines, shapes, and colors to express and vent out their feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression in creative ways.
The e-book will be available on google books and hard copies of the book will be launched in Williamsport, PA with youth and their families. All the youth participants will get their copy of the book. We will share the e-book link to you right after the launch.
Thank you so much for your continued support in TYCL's creative arts for positive mental health and social justice programs. We are excited to update you on the new step towards exploring youth mental health in social justice lens.
TYCL International co-created a five-day learning module for a youth creative arts camp for social justice. The curriculum allows participants to explore and express intersections of personal identities, social justice, and mental health.
TYCL International collaborated with Circle of Dreams, a family enrichment center located in the Bronx, New York City to provide a safe, participatory, and inclusive space for young people to learn, reflect, connect, and express themselves in the area of social justice and mental health through creative artworks.
There were 20 active youth participants in the summer camp. Three amazing local creative art educators facilitated and executed the curriculum in a joyful learning environment. It was a mutual learning experience for the youth as well as for the facilitators. We have been able to act locally because of your continuous support. We are in the process of developing an e-learning program to expand the creative arts for social justice programs for youth beyond borders.
We will keep you updated on the further progress of the e-learning program for social justice. Until then, please feel free to use/share our creative arts for a positive mental health e-learning program.
Thank you so much for your continued support for the Virtual Creative Camp for Positive Mental Health. We are in the process of organizing a hybrid creative arts camp for young people in Williamsport, PA. The Youth Creative Arts Camp for Positive Mental Health consists of five modules:
Introduction to art as therapy and connecting to our modern world
Art for anxiety and watercolor
Art for depression and mixed media art
Mixed media narrative and evoking joy by viewing and analyzing art
Self-evaluation and portrait
The modules will be offered via both in-person and online facilitation by a certified art educator. By the end of the program, artworks submitted by the participants will be compiled into a book. Every participant will receive a certificate and a copy of the book by September 2021.
The Youth Creative Arts Camp for Positive Mental Health aims primarily to create a safe and inclusive space for youth to utilize creative arts to express and reflect on their mental health challenges. Youth will connect with each other and collaborate to take collective action towards developing positive mental health. The hybrid model breaks the geographical limitation and allows any youth across the world to participate - yielding a greater opportunity to sensitize youth, families, and communities on collective healing and positive mental health.
We will keep you updated on the outcome of the program. TYCL International is also in the process of developing a hybrid creative arts curriculum to promote restorative justice and healing among young people.
“My camp experience was amazing,” said a 15-year-old participant from New York City. “With so much going on growing up as a teenager, in addition to COVID-19 and the racial justice movements, this camp really helped my mental health.”
TYCL’s 2020 Virtual Creative Arts Camp for Positive Mental Health received positive feedback from all participating stakeholders – youth, artists, and community partners.
In addition to the positive mental health impact, TYCL was able to distribute direct cash scholarships to the youth and their families to address the digital divide and access to the internet to attend the creative workshops.
The project was also featured in an article by the United Nations global campaign to end violence against children about TYCL's positive mental health initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic in the US and India. Click the below link to learn more about our programs and impact.
With this encouragement and your generous contributions, we are excited to launch the 2021 youth summer camp for positive mental health. Stay tuned for updates and opportunities to be a part of this project!
