Powering youth energy changemakers in Kenyan slums

3 months ago you generously supported our campaign to train and equip 50 youth and women in Kenyan slums with the skills and resources needed to become empowered clean energy entrepreneurs and changemakers. At the end of the campaign we had raised enough money to train 55!

Since then, we have indeed gone on to train 55 youth and women, with a 58% majority women, across the country. From Mombasa, to Nairobi, and to the shores of Lake Victoria, in Kisumu, we have provided each of them with a three-week training in sales, marketing and communications skills, and in personal empowerment and confidence building. 

These trainees have then gone on to earn an income from the sale of clean energy products (solar lamps, chargers, clean-burning cookstoves, water filters, etc) in their communities, that LivelyHoods has given them and trained them on.

LivelyHoods provides constant ongoing training to all trainees, through a daily training session in their local branch, where they hone skills such as product pitching and public speaking, and share lessons and challenges as a group. This is essential in continuously building on what they have learned, and applying it to their income generation activities.

We did it! Between the 11th June and the 29th June, we raised more than our original $5,000 Global Giving goal, to create youth energy changemakers in Kenyan slums, and it's thanks to you and your generous donation that we were able to hit this goal.

This will enable us to train 55 young men and women who we believe have the potential to transform their communities through the distribution of life-changing clean energy products, and change the trajectory of their own lives through a sustainable livelihood.

LivelyHoods has been creating jobs and transformational opportunities in Kenyan slums since 2011, and we have ambitious plans to scale our impact across Kenya and beyond, and impact millions of people over the next few years through our non-profit social enterprise. If you would like to continue to support our work you can consider making a regular donation, which will provide for a continuous intake of ambitious but undereducated youth, who will be given an opportunity to thrive through LivelyHoods' training and support.
