Dear Amazing Leadership Initiatives Supporter,

The community owned businesses you have created over the past decade continue to grow and sponsor new businesses in the developing world. I am honored to announce that in 2016 we are creating 4 new women-owned businesses and 16 new businesses.

10 years ago, having a fourth of new businesses being owned by women would have been impossible. But because of your continued support, the communities we work in continue to break down new barriers and transform hundreds of lives.

Today I am honored to tell you the story of Rachael and her new Yogurt business!!! Again made possible because of your dedication to creating a better world.

Business Owner: Rachael

Location: Rafin Zurfi Bauchi

Business Production Capacity: Approximately 400 bottles of yogurt per month

Number of People Employed: 3

People Directly Benefiting from the Business: 8

Employees’ Children who are attending school: 3

Writing Paragraphs

Business Goals: To produce high quality yogurt and expand distribution across Bauchi.

About The Business: Yogurt’s role in the Nigerian diet has created a high demand for the product in many Nigerian communities. Rachael capitalized on this demand by opening up her own yogurt production business, which has began to earn a strong reputation. Her business supplies yogurt to many local shops, where many people purchase her products. Rachael’s successes have inspired her to continue to expand her business to new distributors and hire more employees.

Community Impact: Rachael is an active member of her community; she contributes by creating jobs and providing employment for hardworking individuals. Rachael has been able to employ three young people, giving them a means to fund their own education and support their families.

About The Owner:  Rachael learnt to make fresh yogurt drinks from her home economics class in school. She began making them for special events; however, after her secondary school education, she transformed her hobby into a full time business.

Rachael is a highly driven young woman who is passionate about her business. She always seeks ways to stand out from her competition with new recipes and special deals. Moreover, her business has given her the opportunity to take care of herself and help her parents provide for her three younger brothers.

This business is possible through Hamza and Umar whose are now investing within their community to make new opportunities and advances possible and owe much of their success to your support.

Once again Leadership Initiatives and everyone within our family and community would like to thank you for your support and would love have you involved with Leadership Initiatives if you ever want to help grow our programs, learn of ways you can participate or have new ideas on how to develop our programs please contact me at mbailly@lichange.org. Your hard work and intelligence is the greatest gift we could receive as we try and create a better world.

Wishing you a wonderful Spring,

Marshall and the entire Leadership Initiatives Family

Dear Treasured Donor,

The season of giving is upon us once again; in the spirit of the holidays, we would like to take the chance to express our wholehearted gratitude for your irreplaceable contributions. Over the past decade, Leadership Initiatives’ ultimate goal has been focused on fighting poverty by creating businesses in developing countries - a goal that would have been impossible to accomplish without your help; your efforts are the means by which we are able to make a difference.

In this letter, I would like to personally show you the priceless difference you have been making in the lives of individuals across the world. Although there are many success stories at Leadership Initiatives, however, I would like to focus one story that that has a special place at LI - the story of Muhammad Sani.

Sani, the firstborn of five, was brought up with strong family values; since he was young, he took on odd jobs to support his younger siblings. When his family did not have the money to finance his education, Sani worked hard to put himself through college, where he studied computer science.

Upon completing his education, Sani found himself looking for a job; it was at this time that Leadership Initiatives identified Sani as a community leader and provided him with specialized business management training, additional skills from an LI computer trainer (although the trainer admits that Sani taught him a number of things as well), as well as the means for funding. Armed with a variety of resources, Sani opened a computer business center with a single goal in mind - providing cost effective computer repair and printing services that would help members of his community grow their own businesses.

After months of dedicated hard work, the computer business center, M.S Dauda, has not only earned a reputation for high quality repair but has also earned a position as a pillar of the community. Many Nigerian high school students have the opportunity of receiving low cost computer training with M.S. Dauda, allowing those, who could not otherwise afford computer training, to develop important technical skills.

The successful M.S computer training program has slowly earned a reputation within the Bauchi State; government agencies and schools have hired their services to provide low-cost training to their government officials, teachers and students. The demand is so high Muhammad and his team have traveled to 14 different areas within the state, providing training to over 200 people this year alone.

As a pillar of the local community, Sani seeks to empower those who do not have access to job opportunities; he employs three hard working individuals, providing them with a stable income as well as specialized technical training that will allow them to enjoy success in the future. Sani’s unique desire to help others has allowed him to rise to prominence in his community; based on what we have seen so far, we can only expect even greater achievements to come.

If you would like to learn more about our business creation programs, please visit our new website at www.lichange.org.  There you can find personal stories, meet members of the community, view photo galleries, or even set up a Skype call with a business owner!

Once again, we cannot thank you enough for your dedication to our cause; the help that you have given us has come a long way in helping Leadership Initiatives prosper. Wishing you, your friends and especially your family the absolute best this holiday season!

Sincerely,

Marshall and the entire Leadership Initiatives Family

Dear Spectacular Leadership Initiatives donor,

Because of you Leadership Initiatives has created multiple new jobs throughout Nigeria through our business creation and expansion programs that your donations have supported.

I want to take a moment and highlight one individual who has undergone this training and what it means to our programs.

PERSONAL STORY OF OUR WELDING BUSINESS OWNER:

Hamza, the son of a local farmer, was born in 1985 at Kofar Fada, but then later settled at Yelwa Markaranta of Bauchi. His father could not afford to send him or his thirteen siblings to school. Therefore, he spent most of his time helping his father on the farm during the rainy season.

NEWco Welders was established in July of 2008 after Hamza become part of Leadership Initiatives'; Business Creation Program. During the course Hamza learned how to own and operate a business, and once he received funding for his business idea, Leadership Initiatives provided skills training for Hamza and his employees.

During their skills training sessions, Hamza and his team completed community welding projects to showcase what his business could do, creating demand before it even opened. By August of 2008 Hamza’s welding business was in high demand within the Yelwa Markaranta community. LI’s intervention greatly transformed his life, as well as that of his family. Due to his training in welding, he now earns about N300 – N400 daily, giving him the ability to financially support himself and his family.

This is especially important when a family member is ill or has a special need. He has even been able to help send four of his siblings to school. In addition, Hamza continues to further his own education by enrolling in adult classes that he did not have access to prior to his affiliation with Leadership Initiatives.

HAMZA'S IMPACT UPON HIS COMMUNITY:
The majority of people living in Yelwa are traditionally petty traders and subsistence farmers. The rate of poverty in Yelwa is high, while level of education and employment are low. The welding business has contributed to the development of Yelwa by providing affordable services and showing members of the community that it’s possible to learn the skills to open a business and secure gainful employment.

Hamza Welders currently employs seven people, including the business owner. The employees continue to acquire new skills and are also making a respectable living to support their families. Children who once needed to work can go to school.

The success of the welding business has led Hamza to develop an interest in assisting orphans and other children in the community with their education. By employing and caring for orphans, and helping them with their education, Hamza inspires those around him by trying to solve the problem of youth unemployment one small step at a time.
Because of you, there are more jobs, orphans cared for and opportunities for communities in Nigeria. You can learn more at www.lichange.org or view the program pamphlet and benefits sheet attached along with our highlighted business partner Hamza's welding business.

If you would like to learn more about our business creation programs please visit our new website at www.lichange.org.  There you can find out about their personal stories, meet members of the community, view photo galleries, or even set up a Skype call with a business owner!

Also if you had a moment could you tell us why you donated and how you heard of us, we are always trying to better refine our message and reach more people with our call to change. Thank you for also helping us, understand wonderful people like you better!

Wishing you, your friends and especially your family the absolute best this Holiday Season!

Dear Amazing Donor,

Because of your assistance, Leadership Initiatives is expanding our business creation program. In 2015 we will be adding 7 new businesses and expanding 3 in Bauchi alone which is where your support is going. To highlight how this committment to development is changing lives, I want to hightlight one man who has been forever changed by it.

Personal Story of Musa Employee of LI created Irrigation Farm

Musa  worked hard doing any odd job he could to support his wife and five children. Three years ago when Shehu created his irrigation farm with Leadership Initaitives, Musa was one of his first hires.
Over the years of working on the irrigation farm with Shehu, Musa’s salary has grown and he can now take care of his entire family.

Musa has grown not only as an employee but a leader among his peers, training new workers and working to create better harvesting techniques for the farm.

Two of his children have graduated from secondary school while the other 3 are in primary school. All of his children plan to attend school and even University thanks to their father’s support.

Musa has also become a shoulder to lean on to his family, offering his new home for friends and family and offering to assist with their doctor bills when they fall ill. He is able to do this because of the income he earns on the farm.

Musa plans to continue working on the farm with Shehu and has been inspired to use the expertise he has learned working on the farm to create a small business of his own to help him earn extra income to send his children to University.

If you would like to learn more about our business partners and the lives they are changing visit our new website at www.lichange.org.  There you can find out about their personal stories, meet members of the community, view photo galleries, or even set up a skype call with a business owner!
