The COVID-19 crisis has been affecting everyone's way of living, but it is especially difficult for people who are already vulnerable. Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan) is supporting persons with disabilities (PWDs) and their families in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Myanmar by providing food and hygiene items.
PWDs often have pre-existing medical conditions which put them at higher risk of the COVID-19 infection. Although PWDs, especially persons with physical impairments, have higher needs in hygiene items, they find it hard to buy the items due to chronic economic difficulties. There are also concerns about the lack of accessible information on ways to prevent the virus and to maintain their physical and mental conditions at home.
AAR Japan is providing food and hygiene items to PWDs and their families suffering from financial difficulties due to this pandemic. Awareness-raising will be also conducted by information dissemination so that they can take preventive measures effectively and take care of psychological health during this crisis.
By providing the hygiene items and informing them on effective hygiene practice, the communities will be better prepared to fight against other infections in the future.
