The coronavirus pandemic is ongoing, but mass vaccination has dramatically reduced its impact. Thanks to great efforts by the team Sukarya we have been able to keep our slum and village communities safe during the last couple of months. Experts say COVID-19 will become a seasonal virus that will likely lead to cough, sniffles, and other minor illnesses. Our field staff and volunteers advise the slums and village communities regularly to wear masks and stay home when they're sick, hoping to slow the spread of other illnesses. COVID-19 tests have become more available and affordable, allowing people to test more efficiently. Team Sukarya works closely with government agencies and provides counseling for more children to vaccinate against COVID-19, which will pave the way for fewer cases.
As we get back to normal operation for our regular programs, we are discontinuing fundraising for the Covid relief drive for our slum communities. We will roll over the incoming funds and ask our donors to contribute to support our "Empowering and protecting Slum Girls" as these adolescent girls in the slum communities are being trained to act as frontline ambassadors for their respective slum communities to create better awareness about how to stop the spread and be safe.
