Relief Distribution In This Pandemic

JAAGO Foundation was one of the active responders when COVID-19 hit Bangladesh last year. JAAGO and its youth volunteers worked together towards helping families in the communities through the relief drive.

This year in August, JAAGO Foundation continued the initiative for the underprivileged people and responded to the humanitarian crisis by providing food support. Considering the high risk of COVID, our volunteers reached out to the needy people of the most vulnerable areas of Bangladesh in the Rajshahi and Khulna districts. We started the relief drive on 7th August with the support of IPDC Finance Ltd. Our volunteers provided hundreds of relief packs in Murli Jora Mandir, Jessore Sadar and Sapura, Boalia of Rajshahi.

National Credit and Commerce Bank Ltd (NCCB) also supported JAAGO Foundation providing thousands of relief packs to underprivileged people. From 13th to 14th August, our volunteers distributed COVID relief packs to Jaypurhat, Naogaon, Magura, Satkhira, Khalispur (Khulna), Jashore, Kushtia, Rajshahi, Sirajganj, and Pabna districts.

United Commercial Bank Limited (UCB) Ltd is a socially responsible bank concerned about giving back to society. We provided COVID relief funds to thousands of families in the most deprived areas of Bangladesh, Rajshahi and Khulna, with their support.

Each of the families got 8 kgs of rice, 1 kg of flour, 2 kgs of lentils, 2 kgs of potato, 1ltr of oil, 1 kg of salt, and so on, including soaps and masks. The volunteers and the management team maintained proper hygiene and social distancing in the distribution areas.

However, people are still suffering and dealing with the economic impact the pandemic has caused. Though many corporates have come forward, we still need your support. By maintaining proper safety measures, we resumed our relief activity again to help those in need and helped them overcome a few of the challenges they faced. But they still need your help!

JAAGO Foundation has been working hard to solve problems and take required steps through various initiatives throughout the epidemic. Your assistance will be a driving factor in our efforts to work more effectively for the underprivileged. We are eternally grateful to the generous people and organisations that have assisted us in getting this far. We could not have accomplished so much without the aid of all of our supporters, partners, contributors, and, of course, volunteers who labour on the front lines to directly assist the people of our nation. We look forward to your support!

Coronavirus has a devastating effect all over the world. Thousands of innocent people are dying due to this, and the number of infected people is increasing day by day. Poor marginalised, daily wage workers are losing work and not getting food & basic needs due to financial constraints. As a result, they suffer from adverse effects and their life is becoming worse.

The second wave of COVID-19 has already hit our country. So there is an increase in the detection of new cases and deaths due to the infection. Our government is tackling the upcoming surge. But that is not enough. By maintaining proper safety measures, we resumed our relief activity again to help the ones in need. With your help, we were able to help the marginalised communities once again.

For the last few months, during the lockdown, our volunteers worked day and night to end the sufferings of thousands of underprivileged families all over Bangladesh. In Ramadan, we collected Zakat and used them to provide food for the ones in need. Along with food bags, we also distributed Iftars so that people could break their fasts on time with food.  This was only possible with the support you have given us. Together, we could help get life-saving food to the children and families who needed it the most.

A few days back, when we were distributing food bags in one of the slums of Dhaka, a boy, aged 14, came to us and broke into tears. The only earning member in his family, his mother died due to COVID-19, and now he has to look after his only family, his sister. Because of your continuous support, we could help him. But is it the end? Are we done helping? Not at all! We need to unite together and help more people to survive. And we cannot do this alone. We need you now more than ever.

Endless Gratitude

During this pandemic, JAAGO Foundation has been working extensively to solve problems and take necessary actions through various activities. Apart from distributing food packages, we are also raising awareness about the prevention of Coronavirus. We are fighting with an invisible force, and it requires enormous motivation and willpower to get things done during this crisis period. Your support will be our force towards working more efficiently for the marginalised people. Our endless gratitude to the kind souls and the organisations who have helped us reach this far. We look forward to your support!

The spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused mankind to face various adversities around the world. Various cities around the world are stunned in the beginning. Roads, schools, shops, vehicles were all dead empty. Cities had been locked up to fight the virus transmission, Bangladesh was no exception.

In particular, under the COVID-19 resistance war, the underprivileged people in society are still suffering the most. They are dealing with the difficult reality of life on a regular basis and struggling to put food on the table. In such a situation, JAAGO Foundation has taken the initiative to stand beside these labourers, hawkers, rickshaw pullers and many other workers with food and other essentials.

“People call it charity, we call it responsibility”, an idea long espoused and encouraged by Mr. Korvi Rakshand, Founder & Executive Director of JAAGO Foundation. Since the beginning of the lockdown, JAAGO Foundation has launched a Corona Relief Fund to help these underprivileged classes of society. Almost every day, they distributed food packages to help these disadvantaged families.

JAAGO has already conducted its relief distribution project in ten districts, including Dhaka, Chattogram, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Gaibandha, Madaripur, Rajshahi, Habiganj, Bandarban, and Teknaf. Many lower-middle-class families around us are facing financial problems, as their breadwinners have lost their jobs during this pandemic. And through this program, JAAGO has reached out to these families and helped them put food on their table.

Our volunteers worked tirelessly to distribute our food packages among these lower-middle-class families in different parts of the country. Our volunteers strictly maintained social distancing while executing this program. They had talked with the locals as well, to raise awareness among them about the dos and don’ts during this pandemic. We performed our distribution in these districts, using our schools as relief centers.

The second wave of COVID-19 has already hit the country. So there is an increase in the detection of new cases and deaths due to the infection as well. Our government has already taken the necessary initiatives to tackle the upcoming surge. But that is not enough. We are planning to resume our relief activity again. And for that we are in dire need of your help. With your help, we will be able to help the marginalized communities once again.

Let's come forward and fight this battle together. Along with our volunteers, JAAGO is determined to move forward overcoming all the obstacles. This journey couldn’t have been possible without our NGO partners, corporates, donors, and well-wishers who have been our constant companions in fulfilling this goal. We express our heartfelt appreciation for your kindness. It is your love and support which inspires us to move forward and do better.

Fighting The Pandemic Together
Fighting The Pandemic Together

The whole world is now battling against the deadly COVID-19 disease and the marginalized community among us has been affected the most during this pandemic. The first confirmed coronavirus case in Bangladesh was reported in March 2020. Almost six months have passed till then, and almost 3.5 lakh cases have been detected and approximately 5000 people have died. To control the community transmission of this disease, our government declared a lockdown across the nation from 23 March, which is still ongoing. All the educational institutions have been shut down and exams have been postponed. The future of these students has met an uncertainty but they are not the ones who have been affected worst in this lockdown.

JAAGO Foundation has always dreamt of a better tomorrow, where everyone’s rights will be ensured, no matter what economic background they hail from. We have always been enthusiastic to work for the betterment of our marginalized community. Giving education to the underprivileged children and working for Youth Empowerment has always been our major focus. But in this tough time, we have gathered to reach people in need with our helping hands, and hence, we have created a fund to distribute relief among people, affected by this pandemic.

Bangladesh Fighting with COVID-19

According to the experts, the second wave of COVID-19 has already hit the country. So there is a chance of an increase in the detection of new cases and deaths due to the infection as well. Our government has already taken the necessary initiatives to tackle the upcoming surge.

Being a developing country, a lot of people in Bangladesh are living below the poverty line. These marginalized people are mostly day laborers, who have lost their jobs in this lockdown. Our government has provided them with aid to fulfill their basic needs but that is not enough. Meanwhile, lots of organizations have come forward to help them, but due to the lack of proper supervision, often people who are actually in need of help are getting deprived. And this is what makes JAAGO different from other organizations. We have conducted a long screening process to reach families who are in actual need.

Relief Distribution by JAAGO In This Pandemic

JAAGO has already conducted its relief distribution project in ten districts, including Dhaka, Chattogram, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Gaibandha, Madaripur, Rajshahi, Habiganj, Bandarban, and Teknaf. Many lower-middle-class families around us are facing financial problems, as their breadwinners have lost their jobs during this pandemic. And through this program, JAAGO has reached out to these families and helped them put food on their table.

‘Volunteer for Bangladesh’, a wing of JAAGO Foundation, worked tirelessly to distribute our food packages among these lower-middle-class families in different parts of the country. Our volunteers strictly maintained social distancing while executing this program. They had talked with the locals as well, to raise awareness among them about the dos and don’ts during this pandemic. We performed our distribution in these districts, using our schools as relief centers.

The biggest challenge of this program was to find out the Middle-Income Families who were in actual need, not the illegal beneficiaries. To make the process transparent, we took help from social media, distributed online-forms, took interviews from the candidates through phone calls, and verified their information. After all these procedures, we were able to create a database of families who were in need of our help. Keeping the identities of these people private, we sent relief packages to them. Meanwhile, during this pandemic, Bangladesh was affected by the super cyclone Amphan and monsoon flood, which affected a large number of our people. JAAGO Foundation came forward to help the affected ones this time as well.

Around 96,000 people have already benefited from our COVID-19 relief program. With your love and support, JAAGO has brought smiles on their faces through this program.

Gratitude Note

Today’s world is facing the biggest crisis of this century.  We have to fight this battle together to win against this invisible enemy.

A Ray of Hope in Fighting Covid 19
A Ray of Hope in Fighting Covid 19

The global pandemic, COVID-19 has taken over the whole world and it is probably the deadliest infectious virus of our time. During this pandemic, every country is taking necessary steps to combat this virus which has taken away hundreds and thousands of lives globally. Even when the year started, people in Bangladesh did not have much knowledge about this new version of Coronavirus. Slowly but steadily the virus has reached our beloved country, Bangladesh. In a country like ours, the risk of being affected and the chances of death are higher as we do not have sufficient healthcare facilities. Another major crisis has arisen in our country which is affecting thousands of lives. Due to the lockdown, people from the marginalized community who work as day laborers mostly are out of work. Even if they don’t get infected, they still can’t afford to live a normal life without any earning.

We at JAAGO are always enthusiastic about working for the marginalized people. Although our major focus is Education and Youth Empowerment, but in this crisis moment, we have rolled up our sleeves to make necessary items available for the people in need in different districts of Bangladesh.

Countrywide Relief Distribution Project

Since the lockdown period in Bangladesh, JAAGO has been a pioneer in working for the people in need. We are working thoroughly and partnering with various organizations that are supporting us financially as well as providing food items and transportation services. JAAGO is fundraising to supply food packages covering the people living in slums in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Gaibandha, Madaripur, Rajshahi, Habiganj, Bandarban and Teknaf. In these 10 locations we have been providing a package that contains rice, flour, pulse, potato, oil, salt, soap and some common medicines.

We have created a database of 30,000 households across 10 locations as mentioned previously. For the purpose of distribution, we have a team of our volunteers from the “Volunteer for Bangladesh” wing of JAAGO in each of the districts. Using our school venues as hubs, our volunteers are working day and night to distribute packages containing food and necessary items to the slum dwellers while maintaining social distancing. It is very challenging to safely conduct this process. We salute our volunteers who have enthusiastically come up to immediately respond to this crisis.

Hundreds and thousands of lower-income families in Bangladesh do not have the guarantee of food for the next day. It is uncertain that they will earn soon, again. Considering the fact that some of them might not be well informed about our relief distribution, we used social media to reach them and to our surprise, thousands of lower-income households reached out to us for help. A form was available on our social media and website which they filled out. The information we received was screened and we interviewed them through phone calls and verified the information given. After a considerable screening procedure, we shortlisted a large number of families who were in actual need. We kept their identities private and provided food packages to these lower-income families during this crisis period.

A Father in Utter Helplessness

As mentioned earlier, our volunteers have been working relentlessly to distribute relief all around Bangladesh. We are trying to make as much as impact possible. Recently while distributing relief an expression of thankfulness came to us from a father, the sole earner of their family.

"I work as a guard in an office. For the past month, I haven't been able to earn anything. Almost every day we find nothing to eat at home and my 5-year-old keeps on shedding tears out of hunger. As a father, how do I tolerate this pain?

Today morning I heard from the people in my area that JAAGO Foundation is distributing food so I also came here to stand in the queue. For now, it is a big thing for me that I am returning home with food for a week, and feeling ensured that my child won't be crying for food."

These narratives make our lives worth living, knowing that we have been able to bring a positive impact in at least 1 person’s family. We know that responsibility as a citizen of this country is beyond anything and hence we try to work effectively towards helping each other.

Endless Gratitude

During this pandemic, JAAGO Foundation has been working extensively to solve problems and take necessary actions through various activities. Apart from distributing food packages, we are also raising awareness through voice recordings of instructions for the prevention of Coronavirus. We are fighting with an invisible force and it requires huge motivation and willpower to get things done during this crisis period. Your support will be our force towards working more efficiently for the marginalized people. Our endless gratitude to the kind souls who have helped us reach this far. We look forward to your support!
