Education for Life

By Jennifer Delgado Urueta | Executive Director

The Comprehensive Sexuality Education project for youth by APLAFA continues to transform the lives of young people and adolescents.

Through workshops, interactive activities, and discussion sessions led by professionals, safe and educational spaces are created where young people can learn and openly discuss their sexuality and other important topics that are often not addressed anywhere else. Additionally, APLAFA trains young leaders who in turn share their knowledge and experiences with their peers.

The Project continues to develop in the District of San Miguelito, province of Panama, and in Santiago, province of Veraguas.

In the second quarter of 2024, the program impacted around 100 young people, who in turn reached an estimated 600 adolescents and young people in their communities.

Personal stories of participants like "Caro", who has been provided with transportation to attend the workshops, highlight how the program has the potential to provide life options for growth, learning, and leadership.

Also, in the last quarter, a conversation was held on the Human Rights of the LGBTIQ+ population, and to support their recognition with representatives from the Foundation of Parents, Families and Friends for Diversity in Panama (PFLAG) and the Foundation of Trans Men Panama; who shared with the young people their experiences in activism, but above all the personal and family barriers they have faced and continue to face, the first, in having a trans child and the second, in being a trans man. The conversation allowed the young people to resolve their queries, doubts and connect with other life experiences and the importance of generating sensitive and respectful spaces for the Human Rights of all people.

With your support for the Comprehensive Sexuality Education Project for APLAFA youth, you allow us to have the funds to sustain these educational activities.
