The Comprehensive Sexual Education for the Youth Project has directly benefited 41 participants under 24 years of age and indirectly impacted 400 people.
Thanks to the Comprehensive Sexual Education for the Youth Project, beneficiaries received information on critical topics: 3 on contraceptive methods, 17 on prevention of violence against women, and 9 had access to menstrual cups.
In addition, the donations received through GlobalGiving allowed 12 teenagers from the Youth with Options Group (JCO) of the Panamanian Family Planning Association (APLAFA) to have the supplies needed to create banners alluding to the prevention of violence against women and to participate in the march in commemoration of November 25, organized in Panama by various women's and feminist associations.
The march was attended by more than 400 people, who mobilized with the objective to create awareness on the issue, but above all to demand the Panamanian government to strengthen public policies for the prevention of violence and care for girls, teenagers, and women survivors of violence.
For APLAFA, the training of the youth is a process of commitment and responsibility, because it implies providing them with scientific and truthful information that they can share with their peers. Through this project, young persons from various communities, schools and vulnerable areas acquire, among other things, information on leadership, self-esteem, and life skills.
APLAFA is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that, in addition to providing sexual and reproductive health through family health centers, works so that young people can have access to information that allows them to make informed decisions, particularly around their sexual and reproductive health, enabling them to carry out their life projects. Participants who benefited from the Comprehensive Sexuality Education Project have also received guidance and support from APLAFA's team specializing in psychology, which has allowed them to manage various situations of social vulnerability.
This 2023, APLAFA will continue with its educational efforts, to provide more young people with information on sexual and reproductive rights that will allow them to mobilize and generate changes in their lives and in their environments.
