Mohammad A is a thirty-one year old man who is completely bedbound following an accident and is completely dependent on his parents and sister, all three of whom work outside the home in low paid positions. The Narayanganj palliative home care team started to see him and taught his family how to better care for him and volunteers began to visit regularly (see photo). He feels much shame and guilt for not contributing to the family. The team worked wih him to get a part time online job he can do from home and deliver him food and medicines so he feels he is still contributing.
This is just one of the 150 patients we serve each day through our project. Inflation is starting to make it so much more difficult to provide the care and tangible help these patients need. We are also working to train health care workers in two of the local Upazilla health centers (primary care) in palliative care to create a model for other health centers throughout Bangladesh. Please be generous to help our colleagues in Bangladesh to make ends meet.
