The Centre of Love-Kibera is pleased to provide a progress report on our WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) project for (January-March 2023). We continue to provide affordable toilet and bathroom services to the neighbouring community and sell tap water from our centre.
During this period, we made significant progress in generating revenue from our WASH project. In January, we sold 7,955 litres of tap water, provided toilet services to 1,140 users, and provided bathroom services to 310 users, resulting in total sales of 9,405. In February, we sold 7,500 litres of tap water, provided toilet services to 10 users, and bathroom services to 50 users, earning total sales of 7,560. In March, we sold 9,350 litres of tap water, provided toilet services to 600 users, and bathroom services to 370 users, with total sales of 10,320. Altogether, we sold 24,805 litres of tap water and provided toilet and bathroom services to 1,750 and 730 users, respectively, during this period, totalling sales of 27,285.
Lastly, we have implemented measures to ensure the Centre remains clean, hygienic, and safe for our community. We have a full-time officer in charge of collecting water sales and general cleanliness of the bathrooms and toilets, helping to maintain a hygienic and safe environment for our users.
Despite this progress, we encountered one major challenge during this period. Our Centre experienced water disconnection due to vandalism, leading to a water shortage in March 2023. Individuals disconnected the water and redirected it elsewhere, leaving our Centre taps dry. This challenge affected the supply of water to the Centre. However, we procured another water connection which is currently in use. We have employed a full-time pipeline officer who monitors water inflow and outflow and follows up on pipeline issues from the Centre to the source of the water. Despite this challenge, our team remains committed to providing quality WASH services to our community.
In conclusion, we are grateful for the progress made in our WASH project during the first quarter of 2023. We remain committed to ensuring our community access to affordable, clean water, and hygienic bathroom and toilet facilities. We are confident that with the continued support of our community, we will achieve our goal.
