I hope this report finds you well. We want to update you on the recent challenges and progress at the Centre of Love in Kibera, particularly in our efforts to address water-related issues and hygiene within the community.
Challenges:
Over the past two months, the community has faced significant challenges due to the El Niño rains, resulting in severe flooding and disruption in Kibera. The congestion in the area, combined with construction in riverways, has disturbed the natural flow of rainwater. Unfortunately, this has led to floods entering homes, causing substantial damage, and even compromising the safety of the Centre of Love. The recent floods caused electrical posts to fall on houses, and our center experienced a significant impact, with almost the entire metal fence being electrified.
Community Engagement:
Despite these challenges, the Centre of Love has remained committed to its mission. We have been actively involved in training water ambassadors, emphasizing the importance of water and hygiene in the community. Our goal is to build awareness regarding sanitation practices, the consequences of obstructing waterways, and the reconstruction of affected households to restore their livelihoods and ensure hygiene safety.
Fundraising and Future Initiatives:
In the last two months, we initiated fundraising efforts to enhance sanitation and hygiene at the Centre of Love. Our primary focus is on acquiring a bottle cleaner machine and a five-in-one water testing kit. These tools are crucial for ensuring water safety, and the testing kit will be instrumental in training water ambassadors on basic water testing procedures. This knowledge is fundamental as it empowers the community to understand the importance of safe drinking water.
We are also in the process of forming more children's school clubs on water-related issues to educate the younger generation on hygiene practices and water safety. Additionally, we are planning to construct a multipurpose hall, a kitchen, and fully functioning training rooms to cater to the increasing number of children playing outside in the mud, providing them with a safer and more conducive environment.
Appreciation:
We want to express our sincere appreciation for your consistent support. Your contributions have been crucial to our work, and your continued involvement is a testament to your commitment to our shared mission. Every donation goes directly to the intended cause, and we want to assure you that your support remains vital to our ongoing initiatives.
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the Centre of Love and the community in Kibera. We look forward to continuing this journey together.
Best regards,
