Talking with community kids about suicide
Talking with community kids about suicide

Over two years ago, two hurricanes devastated the homes of thousands of residents in Puerto Rico, roofs were torn from homes, and heavy rainfall left streets heavily flooded.

For Such a Time as This keeps working, helping, and loving the people that are still struggling to recover. Lots of work remains to be done, even though our communities have shown how resilient they are. It has been an honor, privilege and joy to stand by Puerto Rico through it all.

For Such a Time as This is more committed than ever to support the recovery of the families that are still reeling from the impact of these storms, and struggling because of Puerto Rican economy. For the past three months, we have loved and helped many people in Puerto Rico and in The Bahamas. When the Bahamas were impacted by Hurricane Dorian, For Such a Time as This collaborated with another humanitarian nonprofit organization, Puerto Rico Rises, as well as other US based organizations to send emergency and medical supplies to the impacted island.

Beyond the disaster relief, we’re also working, helping and supporting the West Coast of our Island in many ways. We have helped a group of 200 college students without access to daily meals by supplying groceries and we worked in collaboration with a church of the area cook and serve 500 hot meals for the students at Thanksgiving. Also, we continue to feed the homeless and their families. These are some of the things we have been working on these past months.

We are excited to let you know that now we have a volunteer Administrative Assistant, Carmen, who helps us with love, joy and gratitude. We are blessed for the help she is bringing in the administrative side of the organization.

For Such a Time as This, caught the eye of CBS Lead National Correspondent, David Begnaud, who shared our Instagram story on the anniversary of Hurricane Maria in September 2019.

In the coming year, 2020, For Such a Time as This is commited to keep working hard to keep planting seeds that will leave a great legacy for the generations to come.

Thank you for continuing to support the work we are doing in Puerto Rico - it means the world to us!
