End of the Year Reflection 2021

By Yanira Ocasio | CEO/Foundress

For years at Christmas and New Years Eve,  I have had practice in spending time thinking about gratitude, respect, and appreciation for the people and organizations that have impacted me and For Such a Time as This.  Over the past two years, this time for reflection has become especially significant.

Puerto Rico and the world are exhausted.  We continue to struggle to adapt to a reality that has been permanently altered by the virus.  This has exacerbated inequality, division, extremism, isolation, economic disaster, and grief; for people, homes, livelihoods, and lost hope in an inexorable march across the world.  And while we appear to be reaching a point of general public health, the changes brought about by this crisis exist under a pervasive state of chaos and ongoing turmoil.

Non-profit organizations are among the first and most deeply affected groups, although we are the least mentioned.  Finding new ways to function as an organization, provide services, meet the needs of our communities while implementing safe and socially distant processes is always changing, frustrating and difficult.  Many of us struggling with illness or its consequences, depression, and financial hardship, as we continue to do our best to meet the needs of those within our mission focus.

My work with For Such a Time as This allows me to see the best in people as individuals and through their organizations, as they work to improve lives, communities, and the world.  I will always strive to live my life through a lens of kindness, patience, and understanding; the lens of God's love.

I am grateful for family and friends.  I appreciate the high standards and integrity of our partners as they help me to be better every day.  Grateful to all the organizations, companies, and individuals who are dedicated to making the world a better place. They are a pleasure to work with.

To those who, in one way or another, have been a part of us: With gratitude, great respect, and appreciation, I thank you for being my inspiration and for your contributions to For Such a Time as This. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a very blessed Happy New Year.

Yani Ocasio
