Thank you for continuing to support Resonance through GlobalGiving. Over the past three months, your donations have helped us maintain the studios, broadcasting infrastructure and volunteer community that allow independent artists and programme-makers to experiment, learn and reach audiences freely. This has been an especially active summer for Resonance.
In June, Resonance was the subject of a BBC Radio 4 Archive on 4 documentary, Resonance FM: The Art of Listening, presented by Stewart Lee. Drawing on nearly three decades of broadcasting and our extensive archive, the programme explored Resonance’s history and the ideas behind our distinctive approach to radio. It was an important moment of national recognition for a project that has grown from an experimental broadcast in 1998 into a permanent cultural platform.
July saw the launch of A Week in Air, our new radio-art residency programme. Four artists: Angela Wai Nok Hui, Dora Maludi, William Joys and Neil Luck, were each given a week of dedicated access to our project space, studios and Resonance Extra. They were encouraged to broadcast whenever they wished while developing new work around transmission, radio and the possibilities of sound. The month concluded with a public performance at IKLECTIK featuring the residents and guest artist Agnès Pe.
Throughout August, our summer schedule created further space for experimentation and open access. A Year in the Clear revisited a year of Clear Spots and Micro Clear Spots, our open slots where artists and first-time contributors can propose one-off broadcasts. We also carried Elemental Foley, a daily live transmission from a solar-powered listening station at a glacier in the Italian Alps, bringing the changing sounds of meltwater, weather, wildlife and the surrounding environment directly to listeners.
September has now brought the return of our full autumn season, with more than 100 regular series spanning experimental music, disability-led programming, international culture, environmental broadcasting, discussion, literature and community-produced radio.
Thank you for helping us keep this space independent, experimental and open. Your support allows Resonance not simply to broadcast programmes, but to provide the facilities, skills and freedom for people to make radio that might otherwise have nowhere to exist.
