The Community Center Prostor(i)ja is moving forward! Thanks to your donations, you enable the work of 36 civil society organizations that develop inclusion and diversity, human rights, democracy, art and culture, volunteering and active participation. You enable them to develop volunteerism in our city, as well as numerous activities in which about 500 citizens of all ages participate monthly.
And what exactly we have been doing over the past few months is below.
From January to mid-May 2025, 98 activities were held at the Prostor(i)ja community center, carried out by 36 civil society organizations with a total of 1,836 beneficiaries. The activities that were carried out included various thematic workshops, training for Youth workers, youth exchange, lectures for citizens, book donation, exhibition, podcast recording, Feel good club, meetings and film screenings, chess tournaments, darts training, psychological support for foster parents, high school national quiz league, film quiz and table tennis, education for operating unmanned aerial vehicles - drones, and representatives of the City of Kastav and young people gathered by the Delta association from Rijeka came for a study visit. Karlovac Pride meetings were also held for the upcoming pride parade in Karlovac. In this reporting period, an Youth exchange "Mind metters" was held in the Prostor(i) community center. In 6 days, 25 young people from Croatia, Italy, Serbia, Azerbaijan and Poland worked on the topic of mental health, developed tools for self-help and developed ideas for future projects. The National Foundation for Civil Society Development held a presentation of the strategic partnership for innovation in the local community within the framework of the "Community Potential" Program, which also includes the city of Karlovac. A very interesting lecture for students was held, titled “Homo sapiens: Where did we come from, where are we now, and where are we going?”, which examined the development of AI and where it is leading us. Students got to know 3 humanoid robots and tried out their functions. The lecture was organized by the Carpe Diem association in cooperation with the FabLab association from Zagreb.
Some of the permanent organizations that carry out their activities as part of this project are Karlovac Pride, informal women's initiative FeministiKA, Association for Social Development and Non-Formal Education DrONe, Society of Psychologists, Association of Persons with Disabilities of Karlovac County UOSIKAZU, Chess Club, National Quiz League, Mountaineering Society Osmica, European Youth Parliament of Croatia, Karlovac Developers, GONG, Antifascist Association, Subcommittee of SKD Prosvjeta Karlovac, Association Green oasis, Bruno Groningen Society, Small Animal Breeders Association Champion, Female group STEP, Individual beneficiaries…
More and more civil society organizations are using the space of the community center for their activities, which shows its need and usefulness for our city. The president of the association participated in the Yellow Dot Academy - a program to strengthen fundraising and philanthropic activities and successfully manage non-profit activities. During the 11 education and mentoring program, we gained important knowledge and cooperation with the private sector, management, promotion and measurement of the impact of our organization's work. The final event - pitch was organized in Zagreb, where we presented our project Let's give citizens space to act and our community center Prostor(i)ja to potential donors.
