For millions of families in Syria, the risk of hunger emerges as the result of a broader vulnerability that extends beyond limited access to food alone. Years of conflict and the deepening economic crisis — combined with rising living costs, damaged infrastructure, limited livelihood opportunities, climate change, and the risk posed by unexploded ordnance — have increasingly made it difficult for families to access the basic conditions necessary to sustain their daily lives.
Under these conditions, food insecurity is often not an isolated issue; rather, it deepens as a natural consequence of challenges in accessing shelter, healthcare, hygiene, and other essential needs. Particularly for families with children, regular and adequate nutrition and food security are becoming increasingly uncertain amid these vulnerabilities.
The recent increase in return and displacement movements has made this situation even more fragile for families in transition. The sustainability of daily life has become closely dependent on the continuity of access to basic needs for the healthy development of children and the survival of families, while dependence on humanitarian assistance continues to grow.
Based on its field experience, ASAM (Association for Social Development and Aid Mobilization) closely monitors and plans interventions aimed at strengthening families’ access to basic needs. These efforts are intended not only to provide short-term relief but also to help families sustain their daily lives by building resilience against the risk of food insecurity.
Today, every step taken to support access to basic needs contributes to enabling families to maintain their lives in a safer and more dignified manner, while also playing an important role in reducing the risk of hunger. In days marked by uncertainty, these efforts represent both the protection of the present and the strengthening of the future.
