ACCESS TO FOOD: A BASIC NEED IN DAILY LIFE

By ASAM | Project Leader

What a family puts on the table may often seem like a simple decision made in the kitchen. Yet in Syria today, for many households, this decision is the result of carefully balancing income, prices, and other essential daily expenses.

Rising food prices and limited sources of income directly affect families’ purchasing habits. Products that were once affordable now take up a larger share of household budgets, while families often have to reorganize their limited resources around their most basic needs. At the same time, limited electricity supply and high electricity costs make it more difficult for families to store food safely and for longer periods. This makes planning daily meals even more important, particularly for households with children.

For families returning to Syria, access to food is one of the first and most fundamental needs as they rebuild their lives. Settling into a home, re-establishing a kitchen, and maintaining regular daily meals all play an important role in helping families adapt to their new lives.

Association for Social Development and Aid Mobilization(ASAM) shapes its efforts to support access to food in response to these changing needs, while closely monitoring developments on the ground. The aim is to help families plan their daily meals more regularly and contribute to meeting children’s nutritional needs, in particular.

The impact of food assistance extends beyond the kitchen. It can help families manage their daily expenses more effectively, allocate their limited income to other essential needs, and make household life more predictable.

ASAM will continue its efforts to support families’ access to food in Syria in the coming period, aiming to respond to one of the most fundamental needs of daily life.
