"Be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle" - Plato
A single mother came in on Tuesday morning while the Pantry was operating. She looked tired. We had to update her information into the computer because she had not been in to see us since January of 2020. She said she had not needed to come in but with the ending of the additional SNAP benefits she was going to be short this month for groceries. Our job was finished and she got up and hurried to go shop with a volunteer. Hunger is very prevalent in our society. It touches everyone. Your children or grandchildren go to school with fellow students who rely on the free and reduced lunch for their main meal of the day. There are people who skip meals so they can afford their medicine. People have to make a decision on which bill to pay because they can not afford to pay them all. Life can be rough. Remember that everyone deserves a little kindness because you have no idea what decisions they had to make today.
Please continue to support us financially as we help our Community. Thank you.
We have FINALLY moved! After 40 years in the basement of the First United Presbyterian Church in Collinsville, we have relocated to our own building! We have been very busy with the renovation creating a former EPA office building into a full functioning food pantry. We have offices, Men's and Women's bathrooms (with handicap stalls), storage space for our pallets of canned goods and over 6,000 square foot of flat floors (no stairs)! This is something we only thought was a dream and it became a reality with support of friends like you. The pantry was open for business this last Tuesday and the patrons were able to come in and shop. That is something we have not been able to do in over 2 years. We will be able to help more people and expand services in areas like mental health. We hope to partner with other agencies that offer support to people in need. We have the space to do that now. Please continue to help us do this ministry for the people of Collinsville.
p.s. Check out our photo! We hope to have the sign installed soon.
The Collinsville Food Pantry is looking to move into their own building. The process is slow and we are just waiting to jump right into it. It takes time and patience to move not only the physical objects but our memories as well. Everyone is so excited that the Pantry can be housed in a larger and more accessible facility. The space will allow us to set up a "store" so that patrons can come in and shop. We will have private offices, more storage space and easier access to accept deliveries. As we look ahead at this massive project we are also reminded that we are alone. No more having the Church embrace around us at all times. We are responsible for our Electric, Water and Maintenance bills. This building comes with greater responsibility and we are ready for it. We have our Community that will help us along the way and of course our Donors! Please continue to support us as we move forward.
