The Collinsville Food Pantry serves the community of Collinsville, Il. The Coronavirus has hit us hard in the donations. We are serving more families that have been affected financially. We are needing extra funds to replenish our supply. We are serving more on a weekly basis and that is going to increase as our State quarantine continues.
We have to make sure our staff, volunteers and patrons are kept safe. That meant changing our procedures. The patrons can only come once a month instead of twice. They are no longer allowed in the building. The staff and volunteers make up prepared boxes of food instead of letting the patrons shop for what they need. Also we have to comply with the health restrictions. No groups of 10 or more people congregating at one time. This has all taken a toll on the Food Pantry.
We have had to restrict all physical in kind donations from our community at this time. It is not safe to accept anything that the virus could potentially live on. We are relying on financial donations so we can purchase directly from food suppliers. That way there is limited handling of the food.
We understand that we are in this for the long term. We are dedicated to helping our community survive this Coronavirus pandemic and come out stronger on the other side. We could use financial donations to keep us going.
