Links Cafe will be Syria's first inclusive cafe operated by young adults with Down syndrome in Idlib. After completing 6 months of intensive training in cafe operations and psychosocial skills, the team is now ready to work. This campaign supports rental, furnishing, and equipment to launch a sustainable, empowering space that promotes inclusion and dignity.
In Northwest Syria, young adults with Down syndrome face severe exclusion from employment and public life. Despite completing six months of intensive training in cafe operations and psychosocial support, they lack access to inclusive workplaces. There are no businesses in the region that offer real jobs to people with disabilities. Without support to launch Tawasol Cafe, their skills, dignity, and potential will remain unseen and unused.
This project will establish Links Cafe-the first inclusive cafe in Syria-where trained young adults with Down syndrome will work in a supportive, public setting. By covering rent, equipment, and start-up costs, the cafe will provide real employment, visibility, and leadership opportunities. It will also raise community awareness, reduce stigma, and serve as a sustainable model for disability-inclusive social enterprise in conflict-affected areas.
Link Cafe will create lasting change by proving that individuals with Down syndrome can lead, work, and contribute meaningfully to society. It will shift public attitudes, promote inclusion, and inspire other businesses to adopt inclusive practices. Over time, the cafe will serve as a replicable model for disability-led enterprises across Syria, encouraging policies that support the rights and employment of people with disabilities while fostering social cohesion and dignity.
