Mundapara, the place where the indigenous Munda people live, is near the Horinagar Market, Munshiganj Union, Shyamnagar, Satkhira. The Munda are an ethnic group that depended on forest resources for thousands of years until they lost their houses. They are now the climate refugee living hand to mouth as say labour. They only have shallow ponds for their everyday operations during the monsoon and no access to clean drinking water. They must trek 3–4 miles each day to get drinking water, and it takes longer during the dry season. The tiny ponds next to their homes began to dry up and dirty during the dry season, making it difficult for them to access enough water for bathing, watering their gardens, and household tasks. The dry ponds near and far from their homes make it nearly impossible for them to find any water to just drink at the end of the dry season. Winter of this year has come to Munda, bringing with it the inevitable thirst and water borne disease.
