Provide Clean Water & Sanitation in Bangladesh

Overview

The Water and Sanitation Project, spearheaded by the Green Fund Initiative, is making significant progress in addressing water security and sanitation challenges in Bangladesh. Our efforts remain focused on supporting climate-affected communities, particularly women, children, and indigenous populations. Through infrastructure improvements and educational programs, we aim to enhance access to clean water and promote sustainable sanitation practices.

Challenges

Communities in Bangladesh continue to face serious water and sanitation challenges, including:

• Water Scarcity: Climate change has intensified unpredictable rainfall, prolonged droughts, and increased water salinity, making clean water access difficult.
• Poor Sanitation: Many areas still lack adequate sanitation facilities, posing public health and environmental risks.
• Limited Awareness: There remains a critical need for community education on water conservation and hygiene practices.

Actions Taken

• Eco-Friendly Latrines: Installed removable, durable, and environmentally friendly latrines to improve sanitation for affected families.
• Clean Water Access: Established 14 deep tube wells, significantly benefiting hundreds of families by providing a steady source of clean water.
• Community Training: Conducted handwashing education and training on proper toilet use and water conservation.

New Development: Water ATM Installation Underway

A major milestone in the project has been achieved with the commencement of the Water ATM machine installation. This initiative, launched in partnership with GlobalGiving Foundation and Corteva, is set to enhance clean drinking water access in water-insecure regions of northern Bangladesh.

• Current Progress: The installation of the Water ATM system is now underway, with an expected completion date of February 28, 2025.
• Functionality: Once operational, the community members will be able to collect water using their Water ATM Cards.
• Impact: The system, equipped with Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology, will provide safe drinking water to approximately 250 people, addressing both household and drinking water needs.

This development represents a crucial step towards water security for vulnerable communities and highlights the importance of leveraging technology-driven solutions for sustainable water management.

Future Plans

Green Fund Initiative aims to expand its Water ATM initiative and extend clean water access to more climate-vulnerable coastal areas. Additionally, we are committed to further strengthening our water conservation education programs and sanitation infrastructure projects.
