Report on Clean Water and Sanitation Project

By Mohammad Nurul Huda | Project Coordinator

Project Progress Report

Reporting Period: November 2025 – February 17, 2026
Implementing Organization: Green Fund Initiative (GFI)
Project Location: Bangladesh

Overview

This progress report covers activities implemented between November 2025 and February 17, 2026 under the Water & Sanitation for Climate-Affected Communities project. During this reporting period, the Green Fund Initiative continued to sustain essential water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in climate-vulnerable communities despite not receiving any new donations.

Building on earlier project phases, GFI focused on maintaining existing infrastructure, reinforcing hygiene awareness, and supporting community-led actions through volunteer engagement and internal resource allocation. These efforts were aimed at preserving project outcomes and preventing service disruption while funding gaps persist.

Key Activities (November 2025 – February 17, 2026)1. Continued Operation and Monitoring of the Water ATM System

The Water ATM system established in northern Bangladesh remained operational throughout the reporting period. Local volunteers conducted routine checks, basic cleaning, and monitoring to ensure consistent access to safe drinking water. Preventive maintenance actions were prioritized to avoid system breakdowns in the absence of external financial support.

2. Ongoing Hygiene and Sanitation Awareness

Low-cost awareness activities continued through informal community meetings and household visits. These sessions reinforced key messages on:

  • Handwashing with soap

  • Safe water handling and storage

  • Household sanitation and cleanliness

  • Prevention of waterborne diseases

Community members trained during earlier project phases played a key role in sharing information and motivating peers.

3. Sanitation Facility Follow-Up

GFI volunteers conducted follow-up visits to households using previously installed eco-friendly latrines. Community-led cleaning initiatives and minor upkeep activities were supported to maintain hygiene standards and functionality, particularly during the winter season.

4. Volunteer and Community Engagement

Volunteer mobilization remained central to project continuity. Youth volunteers and local leaders contributed time and effort to sustain WASH practices, monitor facilities, and assist households facing challenges related to water access and sanitation.

Challenges

  • Absence of new funding: No donations were received during this reporting period, limiting the ability to expand services or introduce new interventions.

  • Maintenance pressures: Continued operation of the Water ATM and sanitation facilities requires regular inputs that strain internal resources.

  • Seasonal conditions: Cooler weather and occasional logistical constraints affected the frequency of community gatherings and outreach activities.

Community Impact

  • Approximately 250 individuals continued to benefit from reliable access to clean drinking water through the Water ATM system.

  • 20 households received continued follow-up support for sanitation and hygiene maintenance.

  • Strong community ownership was observed, with residents actively participating in maintenance, cleanliness drives, and peer awareness.

Next Steps

  • Intensify fundraising and donor outreach to secure resources for scaling and sustainability.

  • Maintain essential WASH services through volunteer networks until funding is secured.

  • Explore partnerships and low-cost technical solutions to reduce long-term maintenance expenses.

  • Prepare documentation and impact evidence to support future funding proposals.

Conclusion

Despite the absence of new donations during the November 2025 to February 17, 2026 reporting period, the Green Fund Initiative successfully sustained critical water and sanitation services for climate-affected communities in Bangladesh. Through strong volunteer engagement and community ownership, the project continues to protect public health and resilience.

GFI remains committed to expanding and strengthening its WASH interventions and looks forward to renewed donor support to reach additional vulnerable communities and ensure long-term sustainability of existing services.
