The Water and Sanitation Project aims to address the critical water and sanitation needs of communities in Bangladesh severely impacted by climate change including women, children and aboriginal people. This initiative focuses on providing access to clean water, improving sanitation facilities, and educating communities about sustainable water management practices. The ultimate goal is to enhance the resilience of these communities against the adverse effects of climate change.
Communities in Bangladesh face an urgent water and sanitation crisis due to climate change. Erratic rainfall, drought, and rising salinity limit access to safe drinking water, while poor sanitation causes serious health risks. This project provides clean water sources, safe toilets, and hygiene education to protect families, especially women and children, and strengthen community resilience.
To address these challenges, Green Fund Initiative and its partners in Bangladesh (WEDO, OVWS, and UERD) install eco-friendly latrines, tube wells, and deep tube wells to provide safe water for climate-affected families. The project also delivers handwashing and sanitation training. With donor support, we aim to reach 500 additional families in vulnerable coastal communities.
This project strengthens climate resilience by providing reliable access to clean water and safe sanitation. It reduces waterborne diseases through improved hygiene practices and promotes sustainable water management for long-term environmental benefits. By building local knowledge and access to resources, the project empowers communities to manage their own water and sanitation needs.
