Imagine starting your school day without knowing whether you will have enough water to wash your hands, clean your surroundings, or meet your basic hygiene needs. For many children in underserved communities, access to water is not something they can take for granted. Yet, clean water is essential for their health, dignity, and ability to learn in a safe environment. At Afyaplus, we believe that every child deserves to learn in a school where clean water is accessible. This belief continues to drive our efforts to improve water access and strengthen school WASH services across Tanzania.
Bringing Water closer to 456 pupils
This quarter, we took another important step towards making this vision a reality at Mangalali Primary School in Iringa Region.
Through our partnership with Engineers Without Borders - Michigan State University (EWB-MSU Chapter), Afyaplus has been developing a more sustainable water supply solution for Mangalali. Building on the installation of a new borehole, we added two water points at the school, bringing water closer to 456 pupils and other members of the school community.
These water points represent more than infrastructure. They create opportunities for children to practise handwashing, maintain better hygiene, and learn in a healthier environment. They also demonstrate what is possible when local organizations, technical partners, and supporters work together towards a shared goal. Every water point brings us closer to a future where children can focus on their education without the added challenge of inadequate water access.
Building lasting Solutions
Our work in Mangalali extends beyond the school gates. While working towards a permanent water supply solution, Afyaplus also constructed and renovated shallow wells to provide temporary access to water for the community.
These interim efforts helped address immediate water needs while the borehole project progressed. The long-term initiative aims to improve water access for approximately 4,000 community members, including people served by three schools, community dispensaries, and the local market. This is how we approach community development: responding to urgent needs while investing in solutions that can serve people for years to come. Reliable water access can support better hygiene in schools and health facilities, strengthen community well-being, and reduce the daily challenges associated with obtaining water.
Protecting our investments for the future
At Mapogoro B Primary School, Afyaplus also conducted monitoring and evaluation of the installed handwashing stations and water points following construction and handover.
This work helps us understand how the facilities are being used, assess their condition, and identify areas that may require further attention. Constructing water facilities is only part of the solution; ensuring they remain functional and useful is equally important. Through continued monitoring and community engagement, we aim to protect these investments and ensure that pupils continue to benefit from improved WASH services.
Your support can open the way to a healthier future
Despite this progress, the need remains greater than the resources currently available. More schools need reliable water points, functional handwashing facilities, and support to maintain the infrastructure they depend on.
This is where you can make a difference.
Your donation to the CLEAN WATER, HEALTHY FUTURES: SCHOOL WASH PROJECT will help Afyaplus extend access to clean water, improve school hygiene facilities, and reach more children who deserve a safer and healthier learning environment.
Your support can help bring water closer to classrooms, make handwashing more accessible, and reduce the burden of inadequate water access on school communities. It can also help us build on the progress made in Mangalali and Mapogoro B while extending our efforts to other schools in need. We invite individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, and development leaders to stand with us in making clean water accessible to every child.
Donate today. Help us bring clean water to more schools, protect children's health, and give every pupil a better opportunity to learn and thrive.
Together, we can turn water challenges into lasting solutions, one school and one community at a time.
Every drop counts. Every contribution matters. Every child deserves clean water.
