In Anatuya, a rural town in Santiago del Estero, one of Argentina's poorest provinces, over 1000 people including 400 families and young children rely on Fundacion Margarita Barrientos for daily meals and care. But the water that reaches the site arrives turbid and unsafe, forcing the Foundation to buy bottled water every week. This project will install a water treatment plant to provide clean, safe drinking water for the community kitchen, a daycare center for children , and an elderly home.
Over 1,000 people in Anatuya, Santiago del Estero, depend on Fundacion Margarita Barrientos for daily meals and essential services - including 400 families, small children in daycare, and 10 elderly residents. The tap water arrives turbid and contaminated, especially during summer months. The Foundation is forced to purchase 12 to 30 large water jugs per week at high cost just for drinking and cooking. Children and elderly people are the most vulnerable to waterborne diseases from unsafe water.
The Foundation will install a water treatment plant at its Anatuya site to filter and purify the incoming water supply, ensuring clean drinking water for all 1,000+ daily beneficiaries. The system will serve the community kitchen that feeds 400 families daily, a daycare center caring for children aged 1 to 4, and a home for 10 elderly residents. This eliminates the need to buy bottled water, reducing costs and guaranteeing a permanent, reliable source of safe water for the entire community.
Safe water will directly improve the health of over 1,000 people, especially young children and elderly residents who are most at risk from waterborne illness. By eliminating bottled water purchases, the Foundation saves thousands of dollars annually - funds redirected to food and care. The treatment plant is a permanent infrastructure improvement that will serve the community for years. Combined with a planned solar energy system, it moves the Anatuya site toward full self-sufficiency.
