The Comedor los Piletones began its activities on October 7, 1996, beginning by feeding 15 boys and 1 grandfather. When Margarita and Isidro arrived at the place, it was a very poor place in every way. The few houses there were were all made of sheet metal. They also told us that in their homes they never ate all together because the food was not enough for them or they simply did not have enough to eat. This gave me and my husband Isidro the strength to continue with this Dining Room, which for us always represented as a dream come true, since we did not want any boy to go hungry. Over time, and with the increase in people's needs, we come to what we do today, serving the food needs of 2,700 people, including children, mothers and grandparents, who withdraw non-perishable food, and medicines to attend for different types of diseases such as HIV and tuberculosis. Today we not only have the Dining Room, but with the support and collaboration of many we have the Early Childhood Center San Cayetano and Thiago Andres, where we assist 150 boys who attend from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and who have the support of teachers gardeners, psycho-pedagogues and support staff.
