We are pleased to share our latest progress report for the project "Clean Water for 10,000 Rural Ethiopia." This initiative aims to improve access to safe and reliable drinking water for vulnerable rural communities in Ethiopia where water scarcity and unsafe water sources continue to threaten public health and livelihoods. During this reporting period, the project continued to expand water access and improve sanitation practices in underserved communities, helping families reduce water-related diseases and improve their quality of life. ________________________________________ Project Overview The Clean Water for 10,000 Rural Ethiopia project focuses on addressing water scarcity and improving sanitation conditions in rural communities that lack reliable water infrastructure. The project addresses several major challenges: Limited access to safe drinking water in rural areas High incidence of waterborne diseases among children and families Long distances traveled by women and children to fetch water Poor sanitation and hygiene conditions Through sustainable water solutions and community engagement, NODRO works to ensure safe, accessible, and reliable water sources for rural households. ________________________________________ Key Achievements (December 2025 - February 2026) During this reporting period, the project accomplished several important milestones: Installed 6 community water points serving multiple rural villages. Rehabilitated 4 non-functional water sources, restoring access to safe drinking water. More than 2,350 community members gained improved access to clean water. Conducted hygiene and sanitation awareness sessions for 780 community members, focusing on safe water handling and disease prevention. Established 5 community water management committees responsible for maintenance and sustainability of water facilities. ________________________________________ Early Impact & Beneficiary Stories Safe Water, Healthier Communities Aster, a mother from a rural village benefiting from the new water point, shared: "Before the new water source, we walked long distances to collect water from a river. Now clean water is available near our homes, and our children are healthier." Community members report: Reduced time spent collecting water Improved hygiene and sanitation practices Reduced cases of water-related illnesses Increased school attendance as children spend less time fetching water ________________________________________ Community Participation The success of the project has been strengthened through strong community engagement: Community members contributed labor and local materials for construction of water points Local leaders participated in community awareness campaigns Water management committees were established to oversee maintenance and sustainability This participation ensures long-term ownership and sustainability of the water infrastructure. ________________________________________ Challenges Encountered Despite the progress made, several challenges were encountered: Difficult terrain in some rural areas affecting installation work Seasonal water shortages affecting groundwater availability Transportation challenges for construction materials Increasing demand for water services in surrounding communities To address these challenges, NODRO has: Strengthened collaboration with local water and sanitation offices Promoted community-led water management systems Adopted flexible implementation approaches based on local conditions ________________________________________ Monitoring & Accountability NODRO maintains strong monitoring and accountability systems to ensure transparency and sustainability: Regular inspection of water points and infrastructure Community feedback mechanisms Monitoring of water usage and maintenance systems Hygiene education follow-up sessions Periodic evaluation of health and sanitation improvements ________________________________________ Current Key Performance Indicators 6 new community water points installed 4 water sources rehabilitated 2,350 people gaining access to clean water 780 community members trained in hygiene and sanitation practices 5 community water management committees established ________________________________________ What's Next? (March - June 2026) In the upcoming quarter, NODRO plans to: Install additional community water points in underserved villages Expand hygiene and sanitation awareness programs Strengthen community water management committees Improve maintenance systems for existing water facilities Mobilize additional resources to expand clean water access to more communities ________________________________________ Long-Term Vision Our long-term vision is to ensure that every rural household in Ethiopia has access to safe and reliable drinking water.
