As was mentioned in our report last month, HOPE is pleased to report that work is underway in the rural Ethiopian community of Uba Dama. The spring has now been capped and we are anticipating that clean water will be available for each household in the community by the end of the year. No longer will long, daily walks of 1-2 hours be required to fetch water. Instead, safe water will be accessible just a few minutes from each home. This will quickly lead to improved health and increased school attendance. In addition, more time will be available for pursing economic activities. HOPE is also providing entrepreneurial and basic business skills training to 320 women in Uba Dama and agricultural training 140 farmers. Together, these investments will bring about an improved quality of life and hope for the future, making 2024 totally different than all previous years in Uba Dama.
Thank you for your support of this life-changing project. Your donations via GlobalGiving were combined with others raised offline to raise £158,000. HOPE UK raised £54,000 from a large institutional grant; £27,500 from four other grants from UK Trusts; £6,000 from Run for H20; £1,800 from three events to mark HOPE UK's 20th Year; and £60,000 from donations from individual supporters, the majority during two matched funding campaigns (including GlobalGiving's #Giving Tuesday Campaign). We are incredibly grateful to have raised this huge sum, allowing work to start as planned. In today’s uncertain world, this is something we did not know whether it would be possible.
As all funds have now been raised for Uba Dama, HOPE UK is now devoting its efforts to raising the funds needed for a water system in community of Tsito Tife. Would you consider supporting our life-changing work in that community as well? To read more, click here. Donations made on 28th November, Giving Tuesday 2023, will be receive an additional 'incentive fund' donation, generated by GlobalGiving. This would move us closer to our target of raising the full funds required for the Tsito Tife project to start in 2024. Your support is appreciated.
Also, if you would like to receive HOPE's regular newsletter (4-5 times a year), please provide your contact details by following this link. We'd love to hear from you!
