Every year, approximately 4.5 million infants and over 303,000 women die due to childbirth, the majority in developing countries. One major cause is infection due to birthing conditions and lack of access to clean supplies. These women and babies can be saved by providing simple items like a clean razor blade and string to tie off the umbilical cord.
Approximately 4.5mm infants deaths occur each year, with the majority in developing countries. Nine out of 10 of these deaths are preventable. Our challenge is to save a mom and help babies celebrate their first of many birthdays by improving their chances of avoiding death from preventable birth complications. $10 per month makes you a member of the Global Health Charities Birthday Club and your funds will help us get Clean Birth Kits to remote communities around the world.
A simple solution to unclean deliveries is the use of "Clean Birth Kits", which are simple kits containing essential items for conducting a clean birth. The kits follow the World Health Organization's (WHO) principles for a clean delivery and proper cord care, reducing the risk of an unclean delivery and poor outcomes. Kits include a sterile razor blade, soap, gloves, gauze, antibacterial wipes, cord clamp, plastic sheeting, a newborn hat and blanket, and an instructional pictorial.
By providing such simple, affordable supplies, we can make sure mothers and babies survive what should be a joyous time. We will also educate mothers and families on the importance of a clean birth to ensure the best outcome.
