Summary

In many low-resource communities, pregnant women give birth without access to clean, basic supplies-putting both mothers and newborns at risk of infection and preventable complications. This project provides clean birth kits containing essential items such as soap, gloves, a sterile blade, cord clamps and a clean delivery surface to support safer childbirth. Each kit equips a woman, family member, or birth attendant with simple tools proven to significantly reduce infections during delivery.

Challenge

For millions of women, childbirth is a moment filled with fear instead of hope. Without soap, sterile tools, or a clean surface to give birth, mothers and newborns face life-threatening infections. What should be a safe and joyful beginning too often ends in illness or loss. These tragedies are preventable, yet continue simply because the most basic supplies are missing when life begins.

Solution

Clean birth kits provide simple, lifesaving supplies-soap, gloves, a sterile blade, cord ties, and a clean delivery surface-so women can give birth more safely, even without access to a clinic. By preventing infection at the moment of delivery, these low-cost kits protect mothers and newborns, reduce complications, and turn a dangerous birth into a safer beginning for families.

Long-Term Impact

Access to clean birth kits creates lasting change beyond a single delivery. By reducing infections and preventable deaths, these kits help mothers survive childbirth and newborns start life healthier. When a mother lives, her children are more likely to survive-children under five who lose their mother are up to four times more likely to die. Safer births strengthen families and build healthier, more resilient communities.
