Choose Love
By Linda Wilkinson | Founder
The difference you make brings immeasurable joy!
Although Chikumbuso is following the governments restrictions for COVID, keeping classes to half their capacity and offering morning and afternoon seesions, there is still found amongst our students an excitement at the ability to be with friends, learn and have a good lunch even just for half a day. Walking by the windows of the classrooms you hear the "buzzing of bees" as the children absorb as much as they can from the lessons. The teachers work over time to make this happen. We, at the Community Center, feel our life is full once more. It has been a long year.
Each one of our students has returned with a sense of anticipation despite their situations at home. Interviewing a variety of them we hear the struggle in their voices to share their reality with us. Their poverty is painful and difficult to voice. Some go to bed hungry, others sleep on the floor, often their clothing reflects the homelife giving their teachers a "heads up".
Presently we have 350 students at our school and another 150 in high school. We try our best to see each child as an individual, responding to their needs in love. This is the most improtant and we can not do it with out your help.

A New Year
By Linda Wilkinson | Executive Director
Chikumbuso students are eager to start up the new school year. They are getting supplies from sponsors, checking out books from the library, and planning the return.
Our school is not only an important place academically for our students, offering wi-fi, computer access, and a quiet place to study. It is also an important social place, where they find friends, mentors, a supportive community that loves them. It is also a place where they access food through our regular lunch program. Given the economic crisis sweeping the Ng'ombe community, this lunch is often the only food the children will eat.
Your donations help ensure that our students continue to have access to a place they love and that supports them through all the challenges the year has brought.

The Difference is...

![Teacher Mercy]()
Teacher Mercy
Found on the outskirts of Ng’ombe Compound in what was once an old bar and brothel lays Chikumbuso. Remodeled it has become a collective of individuals forming a widely successful integrated grassroots community project.
As a community we have dedicated ourselves over the span of fifteen years to helping one person at a time and have grown from 1 widow to seven and then on to changing thousands of lives. Chikumbuso runs a K-7 school at our community center, educates 150 secondary students, and over 80 collegiate on a yearly basis.
What makes the difference in these students lives is you.
Mercy was a sponsored child at Chikumbuso who went through our K-12 program. Along with an education and a monthly food stipend Mercy gained confidence. Her confidence came in knowing that a woman in America cared about her. Today Mercy is a college graduate and is employed at Chikumbuso as the first grade teacher.
The Difference is... what you do for someone else.
