Through hands on education they learn real science, collecting and monitoring data on soils and water, making planting and caring for forest seedlings and sharing their discoveries with their families and guardians. Malawi's one of the top biodiversity hotspots forests is place of extraodinary beauty and a treasure house of endangered and endemic species. The traditinal view of forests as a resource to be exploited has ed to a severe reduction in forest cover pushing away some species while unsustainabe farmig has led to soil erosion, pressure on water resources and vicious cycle of rural poverty.
Chinseu children scientists make tree seedlings plant and care for youg trees track changes in forest cover and water quality, share the results with their families and promote new ways of conservation farming that brings money to poor farmers. The school kids collect data for the meteorogical which produces featuring forest cover, water resources, land use in a way that is instantly attractive and understandable to students and their families, guardians.
As the fate of the forests affects everyone our chidren scientists programe inspires and equips 270 scholkids with the tools they need to understand the connectio between restoring forests, protecting soil and water and living better.
