One of the special things about Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley is that our continuum of care starts with children’s earliest days as six week old infants at our preschools and goes on to be there for kids as they grow up at our school age Clubs. Throughout the entire pandemic, the Club has been there for the children of working moms and dads, never closing, and always being a place families can count on.
A mom named Cynthia’s son Hank was one of those kids who has grown up at the Club. As their family got ready to move out of state last month, Cynthia shared what the Boys & Girls Club has meant to her son Hank over the last nine years.
“From the time he was a little baby to now where he is too cool to take a picture for his dear old mom, Hank has been cared for by the amazing staff at the Boys & Girls Club. I cried the first day because I didn’t want him to go and I cried the last day because I wish he could stay. They have raised him alongside me, made him the amazing boy he is today, potty trained him, taught him to read, gave him confidence. They were always there through thick and thin with open arms. Thank you for the last 9 years, I couldn’t have done it without you.”
For every family that walks through our doors, the Club’s staff are here for kids and parents just like they were for Hank and Cynthia, working alongside parents to help kids reach their full potential.
Thank you for supporting the Club and making sure that working moms and dads know they can always count on the Boys & Girls Club!
With your help the Boys & Girls Club is able to keep our doors open for all the families who need us right now and we are also able to offer sliding scale scholarships to families with low household incomes. A mom named Veronica says,
“Because of the Boys & Girls Club's scholarship program, I am able to work and provide a good life for my kids with my mind at ease. I know my children are safe, monitored, enjoying activities, and making new friendships. My kids need this help and I need to be able to know my kids are safe. Thank you so very much.”
Thanks to supporters like you, the Boys & Girls Club is able to stay open Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 6:00pm providing childcare for infants, preschoolers, and school age youth in grades K-8. The cost of providing childcare for the families who need the Boys & Girls Club most is higher than those families can afford to pay. As a result, the Club is expecting a $600,000 deficit this year. Your support helps bridge that gap and make sure that the organization is always able to help essential worker families.
Our community counts on essential workers every day, and with your support, essential worker families know they can always count on the Boys & Girls Club to keep their kids safe, well cared for, learning, and having fun.
Not only is the Club dedicated to helping children fulfill their potential, the Club plays an important role in helping whole families build a better future for themselves. The Club's affordable and reliable childcare programs keep moms and dads in the workplace and that's important for our whole community as we move forward throughout the pandemic.
A Dad named Mike with three kids in our school age Clubs says, "With childcare we can count on at the Club each day, I’m excited to be able to tell you that we have become a dual income family again!
Not only has the Club helped us get on our feet financially, it’s been an amazing place for our kids. The Boys & Girls Club has been the stable foundation our kids needed and they are so happy at the Club! Each of our kids has found something different they love at the Club. Art, cooking, sports, and even financial literacy programs. Our oldest is pretty shy, but at the Club, she’s made good friends and found a place where she’s accepted for just being herself, and that’s something she hadn’t really found anywhere else.
And, over the last year and a half when schools were closed, the Club was always open. Our kids got the help they needed with schoolwork and used the Club’s internet and laptops for their online learning. The Club was a life saver for them.
Whatever our kids need, the Club always finds a way to help – they’ve given my kids meals, back-to-school outfits, holiday gifts, and so much more. I’m so grateful that through all our ups-and-downs, my family can always count on Boys & Girls Club.”
Thank you for helping families like Mike's!
Thank you for helping make sure that families who are part of our community's essential workforce have childcare that they know they can count on. Through your support, the Club is able to provide scholarships to make the Boys & Girls Club affordable for families who are working through tough times.
Audrie is a hard-working single mom whose family is part of the Club's scholarship program right now. With your help, she's able to do the work that our community counts on because she can count on the Boys & Girls Club.
“I am a single mom with some assistance from my child’s father but it is still very difficult sometimes to make ends meet. Right now, finances are tight. I work every day at a local hospital. A scholarship to the Boys & Girls Club helps me know that my son will have a safe place to be watched and where he can make friends. He has always had a great experience at the Club. Without the Boys & Girls Club for childcare, my child would have nowhere to go after school and I wouldn’t be able to keep my current job. Thank you for all the help you provide.”
Thank you for helping families like Audrie's. As our community works toward recovery from the pandemic, we're all in this together. By helping essential worker families access the childcare they desperately need, you're helping our whole community come back stronger. Thank you!
When your child says, "it has been the best day of my life" you know that you've found something amazing. That's what happened when Elizabeth brought her kindergartner to the Club for the first time. Here's what she has to say:
"I decided to send my kids here when online school started and I realized there is no way I could work from home and homeschool at the same time. My kindergartner had serious attachment issues and I was afraid that this was going to be like every other 'school' I sent him to where it ended up in catastrophe. The first day I was so nervous, but when I picked him up he said ‘Mom, I love this place, it has been the best day of my life.’ It brought so much relief to my soul. There have been days where he said he wishes he could go from 6am to 6pm! I send my 6th grader and kindergartner here and they both love it. The staff is so caring, everyone is outstanding!!!” - Elizabeth
I can't think of a better gift than giving a child the best day of his life and giving a mom relief to her soul. When you made your gift to the Boys & Girls Club, that's exactly what you gave to Elizabeth and her son. Thanks for caring enough to make a difference to families like theirs. If you'd like to help even more families at the Club, please consider making a gift today or sharing this project with a friend.
Thank you so much for your support!
