Che Ka'avoty (from Guarani language), that means "My Garden" will provide technical agricultural asstistance to small farmers in Paraguay allowing them to improve their crops especially by protecting them from pests (with organic methods) and extreme temperatures. This will be achieved through the equipping of a model farm with greenhouses and half shade, and the hiring of two agricultural technicians who will provide full time technical assistance in the model farm and in the beneficiary farms.
The accelerated agricultural growth in Paraguay favors the extensive model and agro exporter, but the small producers who are the main responsible for supplying fruits and vegetables to the whole country and who constitute 70% of the farmers, are being left behind due to the lack of quality in products and insufficient volume. The cause of this is found in the losses suffered by farmers from extreme weather, pests and the lack of training to manage these conditions.
This project is specifically aimed at these small horticultural fruit farmers to help them with permanent technical assistance and so that they can see a new crop model in the greenhouses and under the half shadows in the model farm. In addition, training will be provided to improve their income, such as Best Agricultural Practices, Manufacturing, personal finances, etc. Finally, it is intended that with the sales of those produced in the model farm, over time, can become self-sustainable.
This model farm can become a center for permanent learning, storage and distribution of horticultural fruit products for small farmers because it is surrounded by them. Project beneficiaries can have better products, diversify their production and have easier access to the market. All this will mean that they can produce enough to satisfy the demand for fruits and vegetables and that it is less necessary to import them.
