This project will create awareness and early detection of Human Pappiloma Virus(HPV) infections and/or early stages of cervical cancer. This will give room for treatment, consequently saving lives that would otherwise be lost prematurely.
Cervical cancer is a major public health concern in Kenya. It is the leading cause of cancer morbidity and mortality among women. Although screening is an effective prevention method, uptake is low among eligible women.In Kenya, cervical cancer represents 21% of all cancers in women.
Cervical cancer has a long development period taking as long as 10years making it possible to control through screening and treatment. By early screening it will be possible to detect Human Pappiloma Virus(HPV) infections and/or early stages of cervical cancer giving a window for early treatment thus saving lives.
The project will create awareness on safe sexual practices, reducing the rate of HPV infections. It will also educate the women on the need for regular screening and early detection of HPV infections as well as Cervical Cancer. Screening and early detection will effectively avert Cervical Cancer cases and deaths.
