Preparing Local Leaders to Support Learning After Conflict

By Teach For Cambodia | Project Leader

Thank you for standing with Cambodian students and educators during a period of national strain. While the most visible impacts of the border conflict were felt in affected regions, Cambodia is deeply interconnected, and the ripple effects have reached far beyond the immediate conflict zones.

Although violence has subsided, the situation remains fragile. Many families continue to live with displacement-related uncertainty, and schools across the country report ongoing stress and anxiety among students and teachers. Even in communities not directly affected by fighting, educators are navigating disrupted routines, emotional fatigue, and concern about future stability. Access to consistent, quality learning remains uneven.

Progress Right Now

In response to these conditions, Teach For Cambodia is focusing on readiness, leadership, and coordination—recognizing that recovery requires more than reopening classrooms. While full deployment of Fellows depends on funding, we are actively:

  • Ensuring Fellows are trained and prepared for placement as soon as conditions allow
  • Coordinating with education stakeholders to align support with evolving local needs
  • Delivering programs that focus on inner work, emotional regulation, and the neuroscience of change, equipping Fellows with the leadership skills needed to support students and teachers under sustained stress

These efforts reflect a growing understanding that learning recovery in a post-conflict context requires not only academic support, but also leaders who can create psychological safety, stability, and trust in classrooms and communities.

Looking Ahead

As Cambodia continues its path toward recovery, Teach For Cambodia remains committed to developing local teacher-leaders who are ready to respond—not only to immediate disruptions, but to the long-term leadership needs of the education system. With the right support, we are prepared to move from readiness to action and ensure children can continue learning in environments that support both their minds and well-being.

Your support helps sustain this work during a critical moment. By investing in local leadership and preparedness, you are helping Cambodian communities build resilience, now and for the future.
