In Ghana, cancer awareness remains low, contributing to late-stage diagnoses and reduced survival rates. Our project, Cancer Education in Schools, seeks to educate young people about cancer prevention, early detection, and healthy lifestyle choices. By partnering with schools across the country, we aim to build a future where children and their families are empowered with life-saving knowledge.
The lack of cancer education in schools leads to misconceptions, stigma, and delayed diagnosis. Many students have little understanding of cancer symptoms, risk factors, or prevention strategies. This absence of knowledge can impact their ability to help themselves or their loved ones detect cancer early, when it is more treatable.
We will develop a curriculum tailored for school-aged children and train educators to teach about cancer in engaging and age-appropriate ways. Our program will provide students with information about cancer types, prevention methods, and the importance of early detection. The project will also involve cancer survivors who can share their stories and inspire a supportive, knowledgeable community.
By educating young people about cancer, we aim to create lasting change in how communities understand and approach the disease. Our project will help reduce cancer stigma, promote healthier lifestyles, and encourage early detection, ultimately improving survival rates in the long term. We envision a generation better equipped to fight cancer and support affected family members.
